Consider the story of a legal immigrant who did everything the hard way.

He came to America twenty years ago. He worked sixteen-hour shifts washing dishes in commercial kitchens. He saved every single dollar. He hired an immigration lawyer. He filed stacks of federal paperwork.

He waited in line for eleven years.
He studied the Constitution at 2:00 AM after grinding his body to the bone.

The day he took his oath of citizenship in a federal courthouse, he wore his only Sunday suit, pinned the Stars and Stripes to his chest, and wept openly because he had earned the right to call himself an American.

Now look at what that same man watches on the evening news:

A group of military-aged men walk across the Rio Grande on a Tuesday morning.
By Wednesday afternoon, they are handed a humanitarian parole stamp, a pre-paid debit card, a smartphone, and a chartered bus ticket to a major American city.

Eleven years of sweat, sacrifice, and total obedience to the law on one side.
Forty-eight hours, free cash, and a government handout on the other.

That legal immigrant asks the question that cuts straight to the bone:
"Why did I spend eleven years respecting the front door, while the government rolls out a red carpet for the people who kicked down the fence?"

Every politician lecturing this country on 'compassion' needs to answer that man.

When you punish the people who follow the rules and reward the people who break them, what do you think happens to the soul of a nation?

Dear @WhiteHouse, my name is Rodney Smith Jr., founder of Raising Men & Women Lawn Care Service in Huntsville, Alabama. Through our 50 Yard Challenge, over 6,000 kids across the country have signed up to mow free lawns for the elderly, disabled, veterans, active-duty military, first responders, and single parents. With America celebrating its 250th birthday this year and me also being born on July 4th, I wanted to humbly ask if a few kids from our program and myself could travel to Washington, D.C. to help mow the White House lawn for this historic celebration.

More than anything, I want these kids to see how a simple act of service something as ordinary as mowing a lawn for someone in need can lead to extraordinary places. What better lesson in community service than showing them that helping others can take them all the way to our nation’s capital? I’d also love to bring my American flag-themed mower in hopes that the President might sign it, so I can later auction it off and donate 100% of the proceeds to a nonprofit supporting veterans. It would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to highlight the importance of service, patriotism, and the impact young people can have when they choose to make a difference. 🇺🇸
