We have a new boy who was an emergency intake and he goes by the name of Casper 🐶

Casper came with a photo of a little girl and 16p (her pocket money) with a message on the back telling him he is the best dog in the world ❤️‍🩹

Casper made a mistake and snapped at her, a warning not an intention to injure. But it frightened her parents as you can imagine. His rescuer was up against the clock to get him safe so we stepped in.

Sadly a little girl has lost her best friend, but we hope she knows we will find Casper a loving home with adults who can give him the calm and predictable environment he needs.

June 4 is the International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression. It honours kids affected by war and violence. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, at least 707 Ukrainian children have been killed. Behind every number is a child whose future has been stolen. Russia must be held accountable for these crimes.

How pocket rocket Sally came to be at Dogs 4 Rescue.

Her story is told by our new team member Marijke, who used to work at the rescue who asked us to help Sally.

We want to be clear the intention of this video is not to criticise kennels based rescues. It is to show why specialist rescues like ourselves are much needed in the rescue ecosystem. And how we can give some dogs who are not coping their life back.

Just like kennels do not suit every dog, kennel-free rescue also does not suit every dog either. Dogs have to be dog friendly or at least dog neutral to thrive here. Sally is still a little fire cracker and we have to work around her feisty tendencies towards people. But with the dogs she is in her element, and somehow she has created a special role for herself welcoming new dogs and getting the play party started.

Our long term goals are to encourage and support others rescues to adopt an element of kennel-free living for dogs who need companionship and some freedoms.

Sally’s previous rescue is wonderful and they care deeply for their dogs. It’s not easy to watch a dog deteriorate, it’s also not easy to send them to another rescue when you love them so much. So please be thoughtful in the comments.

Whoever abused Sally when she was a pup is the reason why she still can’t be rehomed at the moment. But here she can be happy and have an outlet for her energy.

More than 500 personnel of the State Emergency Service have been involved in dealing with the aftermath of Russia’s overnight attack on our cities and communities. The main strike was on Kyiv, where dozens of residential buildings and other purely civilian infrastructure were damaged again. Tragically, four people have been reported killed. My condolences to all their families and loved ones. At this moment, 38 people are in hospitals in the capital, and all of them are receiving the necessary care.

In Dnipro, a search and rescue operation is ongoing at the site of a four-story apartment building. Part of the building was essentially demolished. Nine people were killed in this attack, including a child. Thirty-five people were injured in the city. The fate of six more people remains unknown. The search for them will continue for as long as necessary.

The Russians also struck energy facilities in the Kharkiv region and critical infrastructure in Kharkiv. Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions also came under attack.

In total, overnight Russia launched 656 attack drones and 73 missiles of various types at our people – ballistic, cruise, and anti-ship missiles. A large-scale attack and an absolutely clear statement from Russia: if Ukraine is not protected from ballistic and other missile strikes, these attacks will continue. Europe needs its own anti-ballistic defense so that this war can finally be brought to an end. And assistance from the United States in supplying missiles for Patriot systems is absolutely necessary. We are counting on the support of our partners and on effective responses to today’s attack.

And I thank all Ukrainian men and women for not ignoring air raid alerts.

Keeper Misheck joined the Trust in 1998, when he was just 22 years old. Over the past two decades, he has proven himself to be an exceptionally gifted Keeper. He has a way with elephants and is the unanimous favourite of any orphan he meets.

His universal adoration can actually be a problem; it’s not uncommon for orphans to bicker over who gets Misheck’s undivided attention!
Wangalla fell fully and completely in love with Misheck, and the feeling was mutual.

He has been extraordinarily committed to this little elephant, spending nearly every minute of every day by her side, from morning cups of tea to bedtime lullabies. When asked if he might want a break or a change of scene, his answer was emphatic and immediate: “There is nowhere else I would rather be.”
