The final version of our paper on anti-CRISPRs "in disguise" as Cas proteins is out today in Nature! Congrats to Mark, Edith and the whole team! https://t.co/e1SmItuSIQ
Next stop: Honeymoon Avenue!
Congratulations to Fernando and Jessica on their wedding! They chose a venue accessible by Line 33 and even included transit in their theme. Public transit connects us all, and it was an honor to be part of their special day. 🚍💍

We wrote a Preview on the excellent recent paper from the @hauryliuk@gem__atkinson groups, check it out!

Right now, there is a risk that your senators and the White House will accept devastating changes to the U.S. asylum process and to our humanitarian parole programs. Please contact them to tell them that a fair path to asylum is nonnegotiable. https://t.co/t6PYyGWjwT
So proud of my team for our latest work, led by researcher Mark Katz. Featuring 12 new anti-CRISPRs, ones that clearly evolved from cas genes, and one that is a super broad spectrum inhibitor. Check it out: https://t.co/AdiTlTs92L
Postdocs reached a Tentative Agreement on our next contract tonight! ✊
Tomorrow, we will make a collective decision around the timing for ending our strike. Members, check your email for details as well as information about the ratification vote process!
Tracking hours is incompatible with being a postdoc. How do we track conferences? beam-line trips? late night grant writing? For postdocs making under WA OT exemption threshold, options will be: PIs must approve/pay OT, don’t do vital activities, wage theft
Legal immigration is *impossible* for nearly all immigrants wishing to immigrate to the U.S. legally.
You can’t just “get in line.” That’s a fiction perpetuated by those who want to keep immigration illegal.
My latest report explains why. Here’s the summary in 1 pic... 🧵
UW Postdocs are on strike! ✊✊✊ WA state passed a law requiring salaried workers to be paid a living wage; we are just asking UW to follow the law!

This kind of "civilizational threat" rhetoric is going to get people killed. It's also utterly wrong. Not only did the US routinely see 2-4 million migrants crossings a year from the 1970s to the 2000s, other countries today are dealing with FAR higher refugee flows per capita.
NEW: outside the immigration office migrants held a peaceful protests, pushing back against government narrative that it was migrants who started the fire. They asked for government accountability, saying “we’re human beings, not animals. Treat us with dignity”
Today marks the Biden Administration’s full embrace of two of Trump’s border policies. This will not only come at an enormous human cost to the asylum seekers that @WhiteHouse promised to protect, but it will also come at an enormous cost to hill negotiations on immigration.
Unacceptable. President Biden just announced that he is planning to use Title 42 to expel many Cuban, Nicaraguan, and Haitian migrants to Mexico, while simultaneously allowing a much smaller number of people to enter the United States by air on humanitarian grounds.👇🏾
Please explain to me why getting a competitive fellowship is a punishment. @UW is increasing salary to $65,508 for all postdocs starting 1/1/2023 EXCEPT for the ones awarded with fellowships. And we are already losing all the retirement benefits for being a fellow.
Refugee law is currently completely out the window in the Americas, including the United States, in the handling of Venezuelans. Countries are expelling, closing borders, and arranging return flights direct to Venezuela for people who have no passports. That’s where we are.
