Alhamdulillaah, our ‘Umrah group enjoyed some beautiful moments together in Makkah over the past few days.

We enjoyed a group meal together, courtesy of the Salafi Centre ‘Umrah Group, benefitting from one another’s company.

Our sisters also had their own get-together, alhamdulillaah, bringing together sisters from different countries and continents and giving them the opportunity to get to know one another.

We were also blessed with the opportunity to visit Shaykh Ahmad az-Zahrani حفظه الله تعالى, who gave us some valuable advice and naseehah. His warm and jovial nature made the sitting especially enjoyable.

May Allaah reward the Shaykh for his time and advice.

Take a child born on the peak of a mountain, who attains his sustenance by whatever means, with no interaction with anyone at all.

That child would still hold that the Creator, the Sustainer and the Provider of everything is but one.

He would not believe that if the sun is shining it is one god, and if it is snowing it is another. That there is a god of the mountains and a god of the ocean. He would not have that belief — because it is not a natural belief.

“Do not try to acquire knowledge all at once, for whoever tries to take it all at once will lose it all at once.”

A challenge for myself and for all of you: between this conference and the next, pick one text — or maybe two — to memorise.

Today, when you leave the masjid, pick a text:

1) Al-Qawā'id al-Arba'.

2) Al-Usūl ath-Thalāthah.

3) Kashf ash-Shubuhāt.

4) Al-Arba'īn an-Nawawiyyah.

5) Or something bigger — 'Umdat al-Ahkām, Bulūgh al-Marām.

Devote yourself to it, then seek out the lessons wherever they may be in the country and travel to them and sit and learn. This is talab al-'ilm.

Spend time with your children every single evening. Take an hour out of every day.

Are you tired? Yes. Do you feel like sleeping? Yes. Do you work hard in the day? Yes. But you have mas'ūliyyah — responsibility before Allāh. You had children, and you love them, and you want the best for them.

Sit with them and read the sīrah, and how to pray, how to make wudū', how to fast, how to be good to the people. Adab al-Mufrad of Imām al-Bukhārī. Riyād as-Sālihīn.

One hour every day from the age of five until seventeen. Imagine twelve years of that. Who will they have the connection with — you, or the footballer, or the actor?

It is too late if you start thinking about their education at fourteen or fifteen. And there is no second chance, because you cannot reverse their ages back to five again.

In Madīnah we used to sit with Shaikh 'Alī Nāsir al-Faqīhi (rahimahullāh), who taught at the same time as al-'Allāmah 'Abdul-Muhsin al-'Abbād (hafidhahullāh).

Shaikh 'Alī would have perhaps six students, sometimes fifteen. And the gathering of Shaikh 'Abdul-Muhsin was this big, if not bigger.

It never affected him. He would continue to teach. Both of them in their striving to teach the Qur'ān and the Sunnah were the same, and they were brothers — and not one of them looked at the other and said: let me change my time, I'll get more students. Let me change the topic, I'll get more.

He would sit, a graduate with a PhD, and have his reader read the notes of Shaikh al-Fawzān upon the books of Shaikhul-Islām, and he would add his own remarks upon that. This is how the mashāyikh and the 'ulamā were.

'Ā'ishah رضي الله عنها said that when the time of death came upon the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, he had a sheet over his body and he would draw it over his face — and when it became too much for him he would remove it, and his face would be seen again.

And while he was in that condition, he mentioned:

May the curse of Allāh be upon the Jews and the Christians — they took the graves of their prophets as places of worship.

He is on his deathbed, drawing the sheet over his face and removing it again, and this is what he chooses to warn his ummah against.

Allāh had given him knowledge of what would come upon this ummah — yet from all of those affairs, he chose to mention this one.

What should be studied in the masājid:

1) Al-Usūl ath-Thalāthah.

2) Kashf ash-Shubuhāt.

3) Al-Qawā'id al-Arba'ah.

4) Kitāb at-Tawhīd, and its various explanations — finish one, start another.

5) Then the books of 'aqīdah: al-Wāsitiyyah, al-Hamawiyyah and other than them.

The entirety of tonight's lesson could have been drawn from Kitāb at-Tawhīd.

On that Day you will see the people as though they are drunk — and they are not drunk.

Each one flees from his own brother, from his mother and his father, from his wife and his children. Everyone concerned with himself. Nafsī, nafsī.

Shaikh Ibn Bāz (rahimahullāh): and why does a person flee from the very closest of people to him? Because these are the ones who have the most right over him — and he fears that they will ask him for their rights.

Don't make your houses like graves, because in the graveyards there is no recitation of the Qur'ān and no voluntary prayer.

When we visited Shaikh Zayd (rahimahullāh) in Sāmitah, and Shaikh Ahmad an-Najmī (rahimahullāh), we would see them going home after the obligatory prayer to pray their sunnah there.

And Shaikh 'Ubayd (rahimahullāh) would come back from the masjid into his front room and establish the sunnah prayer in the house.

Ibrāhīm ibn Adham said:

ما صدق الله عبد أحب الشهرة

he has not been truthful with Allāh, the servant who loves fame.

He loves to be famous, or he loves to be heard — like the people on social media who want the likes and the clicks and the numbers. For what?

Look at 'Abdullāh ibn Mas'ūd (رضي الله عنه), when some of them began walking behind him. He said: go back, for it is a trial for the one being followed and a trial for those who follow.

In Sudan, the youth said to Shaikh Rabī': say whatever you like, say what Allāh said and what the Messenger ﷺ said, criticise whatever innovation and misguidance you wish — but do not name any sect, and do not speak about their leaders. Just lay out the correct beliefs, and you will find yourself upon the truth without needing to mention any names.

He said: I followed this approach, and I found the people receptive. By Allāh, there was never a masjid I entered except that I saw joy radiating on their faces.

Then their senior figure stood to answer him, and brought nothing but weak and fabricated narrations. So Shaikh Rabī' answered him with the Book, the Sunnah and the words of the recognised imāms — and the man began to curse and insult.

He said: and I outsmarted him. I didn't curse back, I didn't insult. I only said: bārak Allāhu fīk, jazāk Allāhu khayran. Then I continued with a few light remarks, and we parted ways.

Shaikh Rabī’: Those who claim you are weakening or diluting the religion when you mention wisdom, gentleness, softness, forbearance and pardoning do not realise the implications of what they are saying.

By necessity, they have to brand the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ a diluter of the religion — and the Companions, and the scholars of the Ummah with them.

O brothers, when we see fires blazing — do we come and pour gasoline over them to increase the blaze? Or do we bring the things that will extinguish these fires?

So take to gentleness, to softness, to brotherhood, to being merciful to one another — because this harshness has turned against the people of the Sunnah themselves. Beware of following this path, which will destroy you, and destroy the Salafi da'wah, and destroy its people.
