@Ghostcrawler Alright hear me, raid boss where all the mechanics are alliterations in alphabetical order and enrage mechanic ends at Z. Optional secret phase that pulls in letters from non English alphabets like Danish/Norwegian has 3 letters tacked on
@Ghostcrawler As long as the game offers other solid and interesting means of progression I think the gear grind having a hard permanent limit is less of an issue. Guild Wars 2 is an excellent example of gear done well, FFXIV is an excellent example of a poor infinite gear grind system
@Ghostcrawler I know a few people I play with would mechanically be excellent tanks in the mmos I play but they donβt want to because of that perceived expectation that they need to be the shot caller and take action
@Ghostcrawler I think that also ties into why a lot of people donβt want to tank (Tankxiety) as they donβt want that moment to moment responsibility. A challenge that I think is interesting to tackle. How do you make non tanks want to tank if there is an immediate need for it
@Ghostcrawler Pace setter I think allows for good skill expression. The feel of running a dungeon with an experienced that is awesome both as the tank and as another role. The level of confidence and control feels really good
@candacerthomas Would be interesting to hear more about this. I feel villain writing has kinda fallen off. Xavius from wow is unironically one of my favourite baddies purely because his motivations are spite, power, greed. Not some lofty overly ambitious goal
@FPCStudio@scottjohnson@Ghostcrawler@Spex_J Thoughts on doing PTRs like blizzard style or no PTR at all like FFXIV. I get that having a ptr is nice for testing in the field but it does kinda spoil a new patch that everything is solved day 1 with data mining/wowhead etc.
@Ghostcrawler I think one of the major pain points is that in some MMOs dungeons are a necessary stepping stone to get into raids (the fun stuff) so they can feel like a chore because itβs something you feel like you have to do to be able to participate in harder content
@Ghostcrawler Hard disagree with this take, at least depending on the game. In FFXIV the dungeons are very very homogeneous so I can see the merit there. The classic wow dungeons were awesome epic adventures with multiple paths, optional bosses and lots of quests to do
@holinka It's a double-edged sword I feel, Dark Knight was what originally pulled me into FFXIV which is like 200 hours of gameplay to get to story wise and can be a huge hurdle for some people to "properly enjoy the game". Maybe side quests/factions rather than main game story locked?
@Ghostcrawler All super interesting stuff! Iβd love to hear more about the various milestones the different teams have and how progress are going on those going forward
@Ghostcrawler I think part of what is interesting to me about this is also a look at the general art style and visual feel of the game (assuming youβre far enough with prototyping to have a style in mind). All in all sounds exciting!
