Russia’s war has always been about the destruction of a people—not a territorial dispute or fears of a feckless alliance on its border.
Germany's far right AfD has banned Holocaust memorials: "Anyone who banishes Stolpersteine and memorial sites commemorating Jewish life from public spaces to the cemetery is prioritising death over life and rendering Jewish people invisible once again."

Russians know there is no depth to which authoritarians will refuse to sink. In fact, they know "s dna postuchali" — "there is knocking from below the bottom."

German journalist posed as a Putin supporter to expose Kremlin agents
Journalist Angelique Geray ran a fake channel for several months under the name “Katya” — a Russia supporter.
She posted videos featuring the Russian flag and soon received assignments from people who contacted her.
She was asked to photograph sites in Germany, monitor people from the CDU, arms companies and NGOs, as well as collect the personal data of their employees.
The recruitment of “one-time agents” often begins with simple tasks for small amounts of money. For example, they may be asked to take a photo, pick up a package or obtain a SIM card. The assignments then become more serious.
Communication is mainly conducted through Telegram, and each operative knows only their part of the operation.
German politician Jovica Jovitch from the pro-Russian Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance reached out to “Katya’s” channel.
He gave advice on developing the channel. For example, the politician suggested making a video of “Katya” dancing on a NATO flag.
When asked about links to Russian intelligence services, Jovitch replied that theoretically he knew nothing, but practically he did.
He later denied having any ties to Russian intelligence.
After Geray revealed her fake identity, unknown individuals threatened to kill her.
Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

German leaders suggest that a win for the right-wing, anti-immigrant AfD party would be terrible for the economy by scaring off investors and foreign workers.

Russia’s drone attack on Leipzig/Halle airport last month and recent arson attack in Poland are dangerous & escalatory.
@bundeskanzler has been clear: Russia poses a direct threat to civilians & civilian infrastructure across NATO. This should serve as a warning for all allies.
It has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime to serve as the U.S. Special Envoy for Holocaust Issues. As I conclude my term, my deepest gratitude and admiration goes out to all those who seek a measure of justice for survivors and heirs, and who fight distortion and denial.
🎥 @SenatorShaheen's message from Greenland over the weekend, as she co-led a bipartisan CODEL focused on strengthening U.S. national security in the region.
The war in Ukraine has real implications for U.S. national security.
If Russia wins that war, Vladimir Putin will feel he has the green light to attack a NATO Ally, and President Xi will feel emboldened to move on Taiwan.
Experts at the #OSCE26CH Anticipating Technologies conference conclude emergent tech should thoughtfully embraced, selectively regulated, and always subject to human decision making.
Fitting to be in Geneva at the ICRC today, the 81st anniversary of the Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism and the 198th birth anniversary of the man who ensured better care for wounded soldiers and established legal protections for medical personnel on the battlefield.
On this Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in World War II, we honour millions of people whose lives were taken by this war, as well as those who defended the world from Nazism.
World War II became one of the most terrible tragedies in human history. Millions of Ukrainians served in various armies of the anti-Hitler coalition and took part in underground resistance, as our land became the site of major battles and immense human suffering. World War II took the lives of more than 8 million Ukrainians.
The year 1945 did not bring lasting peace to Ukraine – in another totalitarian regime, the Soviet Union, repression continued. Today, Ukraine is once again forced to defend its freedom and the security of all Europe against Russian aggression.
The memory of World War II should serve as a call for responsibility and determination to defend a just and lasting peace.
At #CERN this morning with #OSCE26CH to discuss how emerging technologies impact every aspect of modern life including military, science, economic, and ethical realms.
Thank you @NateMook for briefing on @AllHandsHearts' partnerships with @Ukrzaliznytsia, @WCKitchen in Ukraine. In particular, I was moved by the Invincibility Trains which offer heat, internet, and food to thousands without power due to Russian missile strikes.
