@ishsulin It’s almost like these issues don’t make our jobs more difficult too?? We agree with the concerns, we also want regulation and clearer/standardised job roles. But we’re all stupid liars that want to harm patients, just because the system isn’t establishing the role well enough 🥲
@DrEilidhMaria I chose to work in GP because I preferred it, it was just a bonus that it was more money than preceptorships in hospital (which were the only hospital jobs going). The more money was still not what the RCP states we should be paid. Even after almost 2 years. This isn’t uncommon.
@DrEilidhMaria I can assure you I’m not. I graduated almost two years ago and have worked with PAs more qualified that have battled to try and be paid what the RCP states. GPs seem to be able to pay whatever they please and preceptorships are typically 32k starting, 36k after a year.
@DrEilidhMaria I don’t know of any PAs on more than 40k. Most start on preceptorship at 32k. Yes still higher than F1. Yes we all agree this shouldn’t be the case and that drs should be paid more. We all want this for you too. But important to remember the online figures aren’t always reality
@lebanondisco @Dr_Done_ Most appointments are made through E-consults so a lot of the information is already there, making it clear whether it would be appropriate for us or not. If something comes up during the appointment that we can’t deal with, we will advise the pt and book in with a GP.
@veggieequallife Thank you for specifying you have nothing against PAs as people. It’s refreshing to see genuine concerns (that most PAs in it for the right reasons do agree with) not expressed through nasty, and quite personal comments made about the intelligence, morals and demeanour of PAs.
@DrEilidhMaria@wesstreeting Comparing the enormity of a nurse murdering multiple babies, to SOME PA’s working outside of their scope of practice is absolutely absurd. As a PA, I actually agree with a lot of your concerns, but I think using this case to make a point about PA’s is disgusting.
@Dr_Done_ @SDS_Ludlow This is absolutely miles away from all the conditions a GP would see. We have held presentations to admin & clinical staff to ensure they know what our role is, stressed that we are not doctors and explained what we can (and can’t!) do. PAs are very valuable when done correctly.
@Dr_Done_ @SDS_Ludlow I don’t know a single PA that would be happy to work as “duty doctor”. I also don’t know a single PA that would claim they can do “basically everything a GP can do”. The ones that slip through the net tend to be the ones who went into this for the wrong reasons.
