Students should be exposed to current events so that they have a better understanding of what is occurring in the world today. Unfortunately, I find that students today are not even interested in what is going on in the world around them! #sunchat
@bwaterfall1 I agree Bethany! This definitely gets tricky! Not only for teachers, but I find that sometimes students are influenced by their surroundings and begin to share the opinions of parents and family members.
Good morning #sunchat! I think it can be tough at times engaging our young students in current event topics. I am curious to hear about strategies used by elementary school teachers!
@hechternacht I always feel like you can tell when your students get bored. You may begin to experience behavior changes with your students simply because they are bored! This is when it's time to switch up those materials! You have to keep them engaged!
We are currently doing a clothing study using Creative Curriculum and my students had the idea of creating a laundromat. We made a washing machine out of a box and we use empty bottles of detergent! They practice sorting the clothing and then pretend to wash them! #kinderchat
It's definitely important to pay attention to the interest of your students! I try to keep their interests in mind when adding materials, and I like to switch things up to keep them engaged! #kinderchat
My students love pretending that they are at a restaurant! I currently have menus from a variety of restaurants a long with clipboards and pencils in the center. They take turns pretending to take orders and being the customer! #kinderchat
I find that when I get my students to self-assess and I provide feedback along the way they develop a better understanding of where they are now and where they need to go. #sunchat
Students should be actively involved in the formative assessment process. They should be engaged in self-reflection so that they are keeping track of their learning. #sunchat
