Mumbai Police showed exemplary professionalism yesterday.
Imagine the men and women of Mumbai Police, who had just completed round the clock bandobast for Ganesh Chaturthi, handling the CJP protest without frustration, high handedness or aggression.
And immediately after this, they move straight into Navratri security.
Behind every festival we celebrate peacefully, there are thousands of policemen and women who miss their own celebrations, their families and their rest, so that the rest of us can celebrate safely.
A heartfelt salute to these men and women of Mumbai Police.
Thank you for your service.
If a person goes to the election commission and submits 200 forms to delete the names of voters, the EC doesn't ask - how did this person, who is not part of the official election machinery, determine that these 200 people should not be on the roll? Would anyone really spend their time going door to door to find such a thing, document it and bring it to the EC? Or is it more likely that this is a fraudulent attempt to disenfranchise a targeted set of people?
In our system, this kind of submission is 'permissible', which is itself foolish. But is it not also criminal to make such submissions, especially without the knowledge of people being deleted? @DKShivakumar's protest yesterday was on target to point this out. But why wait for the EC, which is anyway compromised? Those submitting such forms should be charged by the police too @PriyankKharge
It is not mandatory to vote. It is not mandatory to register to vote. But all citizens have the right to vote. If you put these three together, it should be obvious that one person's right to vote is not in any way connected to whether their father or mother had such a right decades ago or exercised it.
All the EC needs is one's own documents to register to vote. And if a person has already done that to get on the roll earlier, it is silly to first delete them and then ask them to do it again simply because their father was not on the roll eons ago.
As a result, in searching for everyone's fathers, the EC has itself been the father of needless harassment. And for this madness, they pulled hundreds of thousands of teachers out of schools and made them conduct an exercise that has nothing to do with their jobs, while the students who depend on them were left in the lurch.
The whole exercise is a disgrace.
@AirIndiaX Its 8.45 pm. Boarding hasnt even started. So the revised departure cant be 9 pm anymore. At least communicate what it is. Your on ground staff has been saying “engineering check” for an hour now.
My 76-year-old neighbour has voted all his life and was mapped too. Now the EC has sent him a notice claiming the age gap with his father is less than 15 years. He has had to trek to the BLO twice—once to pick up the notice, and again for a photo upload. #SIR is a total mess.
So it’s official now. Booth level officers have a new, special category on their apps : EC approved VIP voters.
For the rest of us non- VIPs however it’s still harassment and disenfranchisement as usual .
Electoral democracy in New India!
Hear me out. I am one of these deleted voters. Does this mean the government can’t find me. What happens when I don’t file my income tax. I invite the government to prove that I exist.
There is no provision or mention of the word VIP (Very Important Person) in the Constitution of India. Article 14 (Right to Equality) guarantees equality before the law and equal protection of the laws to all citizens. @ECISVEEP better explain this arrived on the app in mid-Sep.
The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before.
The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t.
HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside.
Out today, after months of work. Our #ExpressInvestigation 🧵

The visuals of people surrounding and heckling Abhijeet Dipke aren't surprising, but surely revealing.
He went to meet families of Adivasi children who tragically died.
But Dipke was accused of "doing politics over the dead".
The logic is sinister and insensitive.
You are basically saying that tribal children can die in anonymity, and an activist highlighting their terrible conditions is the problem.
Had launched the Moto Razr in its first avatar in 2004 or so. We got it weeks before launch and would flaunt it at the toniest of places. Have never seen people’s eye pop out on seeing a phone as they did with the Razr. iPhone 100 won’t get those looks.
#ExpressInvestigation | Delhi Police told the Supreme Court its facial recognition system flagged 2,873 people with criminal records at protest, assured no action without verification.
An Express verification shows at least 25 on that list, facing serious charges, were in jail.

Punjab has terrible schools? Expose them.
Congress-ruled states have terrible schools? Expose them.
BJP-ruled states have terrible schools? Expose them.
I genuinely don't understand why some people treat criticism of a BJP government like an attack on their family.
Grow up.
You elected them to work for you.
Question them. Expose them. Hold them accountable.
Stop worshipping politicians.
Schools don't have teachers, hospitals don't have doctors, water has uranium, air is polluted, deforestation is at an all time high, the rupee is at an all time low, petrol prices are at an all time high, manipur is burning and after being the world's second-largest sugar exporter, we are now an importer. But yeah, let's talk about Vande Mataram.
Highly recommend everyone to listen to this, especially given the times we live in.
