JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily loves #3 Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, perhaps funniest of Aardman's Shaun series. #7 is doc. Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger, most likely to appeal to Oasis fans, familiar with their story. James excited by limited edition, restored, disc of 2000's Sexy Beast, w. Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley and Ian McShane in one of best British gangster films. With visual authority & amazing perfs, also has best extras in years. The Whisper Man, on Netflix, is conventional, nasty crime thriller with nothing good about it, despite cast inc. Robert de Niro, Michelle Monaghan & Michael Keaton.

Latest research shows that humans have two brains, says @stevecaplin. Stanford scientists have created human-mouse hybrid to study causes of schizophrenia, dementia & like. In Japan, there's ambulance for sick robots. Dyson's new toothbrush comes with built-in camera so you can watch on phone. Steve waxes lyrical about crowd-funded wireless, portable touchscreen monitor. In flood-ridden, you can get giant sheets to seal your car against water. And offensive e-bike riders may find their behaviour has consequences in future.

#1 Practical Magic 2 w. Nicole Kidman & Sandra Bullock like a mediocre episode of TV show Bewitched, says JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily. He was bewitched by #3 Pressure. Andrew Scott is Scottish weatherman advising Brendan Fraser's Eisenhower on feasibility of landing Allied forces in France. Like a courtroom thriller, this brilliant film is one of greatest portrayals of WW2 figure. James loved supernatural thriller Obsession, out on Blu-Ray. Beautifully made and acted, it's deeply unsettling but works wonderfully. Also fan of Apple TV's buddy comedy Mayday. In 1987 Ryan Reynolds is American pilot who crashes in Russia near home of hermit Kenneth Branagh, the funniest he's been in ages.

The pluses of Apple's new iOS & Siri AI w. @stevecaplin. Uber recruits people with regional accents to train AI. The Ig Nobel Prizes are awarded to scientists burying underpants, milking cockroaches & smelling babies. AI agents develop a surprisingly poetical language to speed inter-AI communications. Gatwick Airport is using robots to park cars. There's a crowd-funded self-powered treadmill for chickens. Cyborg cockroaches can now deliver injections to those trapped in disaster zones.

Our data and creativity is being seized and digested by #AI — now it's threatening our existence as well. It's time to take control through ownership for all ..

National Cinema Weekend reduced UK b.o. says JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily. Death of Robin Hood limped in at #7. w. Hugh Jackman it's violent, extremely bloody & grim telling of famous tale. James & Simon Rose disagreed about Coyote vs. Acme, mix of live action & animation that has Roadrunner's cartoon enemy suing the famous corp. James found it ludicrous & unfunny. Simon (and those around him) found it often hilarious & great fun. At #14 is Greg Araki's erotically-charged I Want Your Sex. It stars Olivia Wilde as provocative artist. Often v. funny & daring but often also uncomfortable.

Folding iPhone Duo is "gorgeous", says @stevecaplin though very pricy. Also impressed by new Apple watch features. Scientists have reproduced the sound of a Jurassic forest. Sound familiar? There's a way to detect dangerous fake alcohol. App claims to predict onset of flu or Covid by listening to your coughs. Weird Tokyo hotel uses only robot staff, inc. talking velociraptors. And crowd-funded Mezmodrop catches an aluminium collar fired high into the air.

A government bond meltdown is definitely on the cards, not just in the UK but across the free world. We need a change in mindset to get out of this mess.

Spider-Man & Odyssey tussle for #1 but JCW @Film_Rev_Daily says #5 dystopian thriller The Dog Stars has Ridley Scott's usual visual aplomb. Despite great action sequences, film is emotionally unrewarding and a real downer. #9, One Night Only, is romcom w. chemistry between Callum Turner & Monica Barbaro. It's romantic, funny, original & charming. Strong recommendation for @StudiocanalUK's 8 Peter Sellers films w. Smallest Show on Earth & Only Two Can Play highlighted.

Hard to hail London's self-driving taxis, says @stevecaplin. But you can Sumon a mobile TV. Which? got a fake https://t.co/JgVaigLF3b listing for 10, Downing Street. Scientists can use WiFi to identify people without cameras. A new robot for household tasks is incredibly slow. A crowd-funded solar bike has the panels inside both wheels. Nasa has developed 3D-printed plastic biscuits, but nobody is allowed to taste them. And the Science Museum is about to host an attempt by Star Trek fans for the largest simultaneous Vulcan salute.

Our approach to democracy must change in order to confront short-termism, generational unfairness and the need for global convergence: but not by becoming more parochial.

#8 Mutiny, says JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily is Jason Statham's latest thriller. He's a bodyguard on the run. It's formulaic and very violent but stuntwork is effective & inventive while the director piles on suspense, turning a B-movie into a B-plus. #10 is unsympathetic biopic of chef Antony Bourdain with great cast. But with such a disagreeable protagonist, it's not among James's favourite foodie films. Amazon Prime has Mother Mary w. Anne Hathaway a former pop star in an oppressive movie full of florid dialogue. Think Bergman's Persona crossed with The Dresser. James ends with top 10 movies of all time in terms of audiences. #1 the same as it has for decades.

Balcony solar panels are on sale now, only nowhere has them, says @stevecaplin. Settling a lawsuit for $17bn, Meta will change children's safety limitations worldwide. Digger drivers can soon train on video simulators. There are air-conditioned jackets for dogs. A 3D-printed banjo assaults the ears. A sightseeing bus in Tokyo now has sushi on a conveyor belt. Take care if a car park suggests you pay by QR code. And an AI doctors' receptionist in Yorkshire can't understand Yorkshire accents.

Clement Attlee saw the writing on the wall for universal 'free' health care 75 years ago, but the generational unfairness it has now caused has become acute. Budget planners, please take note!

JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily thought #3 The End of Oak Street, with a suburban family battling dinosaurs, daft as a brush. W. Anne Hathaway & Ewan McGregor, it's good fun & genuinely nerve-shredding. #12 Sunny Dancer has Bella Ramsey as a reluctant attendee at a holiday camp for cancer survivors. Written & directed by a young George Jaques, it does not shy from life's messiness, has wonderful dialogue & great performances. It is one of best films of year. On Netflix, comedian Mo Gilligan eats nothing but fried chicken for 28 days in Big Chicken: A Fast Food Conspiracy. Almost dying, he exposes atrocious treatment of the birds and factory workers. It's a hard watch and has persuaded James never to eat fried chicken again.

Jony Ive's portable smart speaker for OpenAI is a metal doughnut but not available until 2027, says @stevecaplin. Another innovative speaker has "a world inside" with a visible 3D environment. 29 US states are suing Meta. A weird robot phone ogles bystanders & answers "yes or no" questions. You can get a smartphone that you can fix yourself. A devil robot is intended to deal with California wildfires. The Japanese have invented a human washing machine. And visitors to one London hotel can get free entry to see the Bayeux Tapestry.

On in Picturehouse cinemas, says JC-W @Film_Rev_Daily is French/Lux Love Me Tender. About a lawyer leaving her marriage & finding her sexuality, it feels very real and has one of year's best perfs. Really stays with you & highly recommended. Survival thriller The Last House is on Netflix. James became enormously invested & found it suspenseful. On BFI Player the doc Lesvia reminded him of old travelogues. Sweet & affectionate, also terribly niche. He caught up with BBC adaptation of Michael Frayn's play Copenhagen w. Stephen Rea & Daniel Craig on iPlayer. It dovetails into Oppenheimer & so many other things.
