“I’m very concerned that our society is much more concerned with information than wonder, in noise rather than silence. How do we encourage reflection? … Oh my, this is a noisy world.”
Mayor of Philadelphia Jim Kenney said something we BEEN knew.
He's checked out, over the job, ready for it to be over.
He shouldn't have ran for re-election, but whatever. #Philly
Can you imagine after the Dred Scott ruling in 1857 saying “Unless we’re all going to say the word of the Supreme Court will no longer have value, we have to heed the word of the Supreme Court.”…they are allergic to resisting, fighting or simply disobeying. Cowards.
Refresher on what a “pro-life” agenda ACTUALLY looks like:
- gun safety laws
- taking action on climate change
- protecting LGBT rights
- healthcare for all
- expanding pre-natal care
- expanding mental healthcare
- expanding childcare
- universal preschool
- free school meals
So just so I’m clear…there’s no affordable childcare, no paid family leave and now a formula shortage but in no way is a woman allowed to make her own choice about bringing a child into this world…
We should do more to fix what’s really hurting our children, because one thing is for certain; my daughter wasn’t hiding in a closet for 3 hours while her classmates were being murdered by Critical Race Theory.
The death penalty is fundamentally a poor person’s issue. I have never met a single person with money or resources on death row. Capital punishment means “those without the capital get the punishment.”
Your annual reminder that Dr. King believed in guaranteed universal basic income that gave all people a dignified life, guaranteed housing for all, guaranteed access to a high quality education, & said that “no one should be forced to live in poverty while others live in luxury.”
I would love to see a panel of teachers and students share their thoughts and experiences over the last two years instead of people who get paid to have opinions. Don’t just talk about teachers, please interview them.
Philadelphia really will break your heart a different way every day. My heart goes out to the families. We must take care of all of our babies much better in this city. They deserve so much more.
I will never forget the lawyer who told the judge in an education equity case I and others litigated 17 years ago: these kids can’t read anyway so why give them books? He was so wrong. Actual education opportunity depends on believing in the value of every kid. I do.
“Employees can get back to work if they are infectious but not sick enough to be bedridden” is the new “just train kids to hide under their desks when someone is shooting their classmates”.
Neither solves the problem. Both make things worse.
The local opinion articles on the issue of gun violence are honestly starting to scare me. We need more folks engaging the humans in the most impacted neighborhoods, schools, or hospitals. We’re missing the nuance and we’re romanticizing history. That’s dangerous.
