A group of 12 illegal entrants evaded Border Force water patrols, made it ashore and headed to the pub before finally being intercepted by authorities.

A group of a dozen illegal entrants smuggled into Queensland were detained after locals saw them at a Far North Queensland pub.

About 12 people were taken into custody on Tuesday after a boat of illegal entrants reached the shore near Weipa.

It was reported that a boat carrying a dozen asylum seekers, believed to be from China, had been intercepted in Weipa in the Cape York Peninsula, roughly 800 km north west of Cairns.
