"We all know about the theft of Scotland’s vast oil and gas wealth, which is still ongoing, and with much of Scotland’s gas production also used to support England’s electricity generation. Scotland’s vast renewable energy production is next.

Last time I looked, Scotland’s renewable energy production is calculated to have a retail value of at least £60 billion per annum by 2030, based on UK prices of around £0.30 per kWh. And, given expected additional production, we might safely assume this ‘resource’ will have a retail value exceeding £100 billon per annum shortly thereafter. That’s £100 billion + every year for at least the next 30 years, and probably a lot more."

This is very powerful testimony by Tiarna, a woman who was involved in prostitution in New Zealand, from when she was 12 to her late 20s.

“… A man who had been coming to see me regularly, asked me to dress up in school clothes. He said he missed the way I was when I was 12. It was more of a turn on, he said. His happy place was a lot happier when I was younger. He said I was coming up to my use-by date, and all I was good for was fucking and once I was not good for that anymore, I should just go and kill myself because no one would want me – not even if I offered it for free.

It was not until he said that, that I realised these guys were creeps. My skin literally crawled. I felt like I had just woken up from a deep sleep, realising the life I had been living was pure and actual hell. I just did not want to be amongst all these creepy men anymore. I had had enough. He was right in a way. I would rather be dead than have to fuck one more guy to survive.

No one had ever said that I was not a sex worker. I had always been told that now I was over 18, it was choice and an empowering choice at that. Now I know it was never a choice. An empowered choice, how? How is choosing to sell myself for sex to strangers as a child vs being fucked at home by so called family for free a choice? What choice is that?

Then suddenly the moment I was 18, it was “sex work”. I still did not have a choice, because it was the only life I had known. It was all I was trained to do.

How ironic my training to be a sex worker was being raped everyday as a child to the point I had to leave home and be on the streets. Instead of going to school, I went to rape school every day. Rape school where I was taught how to be the best fuckable, rapeable schoolgirl. Rape school and graduation at 18. I was now a sex worker. Cheapest on the block…”

In view of Zack Polanski’s much publicised support for the full decriminalisation of prostitution, we thought it might be a good time to repost this old article that summarises what that means in practice:

- It decriminalises pimps, punters and brothel keepers
- It normalises the sale of women and girls for sex
- It fails to recognise the inherent harms of prostitution
- It makes prostitution into welfare for poor women
- It leads to an increase in demand for prostitution from men
- It leads to increased sex trafficking to meet the extra demand
- It leads to lower prices & increased expectations from men
- It contradicts binding human rights treaties
- It is an obstacle to equality between the sexes
- It is opposed by leading women’s organisations & many survivors of prostitution

In Northern Nigeria, where child marriage is pervasive, girls are at risk of "obstetric fistula".

If a girl becomes pregnant before her pelvis is fully developed, then labour may be obstructed. The baby's head presses against the birth canal for hours or perhaps even days, cutting off blood supply. When the tissue dies, a hole forms between the bladder and vagina.

In the aftermath, she continuously leaks urine - for the rest of her life.

The smell usually means stigma and divorce.

Nigeria registers about 12,000 cases per year.
