There have been over 300 mass shootings in the first half of 2024. Why does this get so much attention (including calls for a congressional investigation) when schools shootings are now the norm?
Let’s make one thing clear from the start: Donald Trump was the victim of a shooting in a country he has been inciting to violence for years. — Trump is neither a martyr nor a hero, he is a cause.
Why are things expensive?
4 companies control 55% to 85% of the meat market.
4 airlines control 80% of air travel.
3 companies control 92% of the soda market.
3 companies control 73% of the cereal market.
Why don't I hear about it?
6 companies control 90% of the news.
I’m t also goes to show the true power of hospice care when started early. Too many families wait until the last days of life rather than focusing on quality of life for a longer time period. Hospice doesn’t mean giving up, it means allowing sometime to live more comfortably.
President Jimmy Carter has officially been in hospice care for a year and is said to be alert, eating and understands what’s going on. The strength of this amazing human being is awe inspiring. Sending him and his family love and prayers. 🙏
Let me help you out and give you my thoughts on DEI
1. Diversity
Good businesses look where others don't, to find the employees that will put your business in the best possible position to succeed.
You may not agree, but I take it as a given that there are people of various races, ethnicities, orientation, etc that are regularly excluded from hiring consideration. By extending our hiring search to include them, we can find people that are more qualified. The loss of DEI-Phobic companies is my gain.
1a. We live in a country with very diverse demographics. In this era where trust of businesses can be hard to come by, people tend to connect more easily to people who are like them. Having a workforce that is diverse and representative of your stakeholders is good for business.
Managers delegate tasks.
Leaders delegate goals.
Sounds like a minor difference, but the impact is huge. Give them the why & what, agree on when & who, and let them figure out the how.
Your job is to set directions, provide resources, clear roadblocks, and cheer them on.
My quick 3-step checklist:
- Tell -> explain what you want
- Show -> your definition of success
- Check -> manage mutual expectations
A great way to do the last one is to ask someone to explain in their own words what they're about to do.
Let them explain how they understood it, what their approach is, and what resources they need. Once you both agree, get the heck out of the way.
Without clear expectations, you can't give feedback.
But with micromanagement, you can't expect growth.
@jfrickuga I also partner this with the idea of teaching responsibility. If they are going to miss a deadline, they are expected to tell be before the deadline (same with missed class), just as expected for being out of work or late on a deadline. 2/2
@jfrickuga I disagree with this hardline policy. I teach at an urban campus and understand that for all students “life happens.” There are many times where I say no, but sometimes they have a good case/reason. All I’m saying is we should listen. 1/2
On the same day I’m presenting research on adult learn-to-swim programs and disparities in Perth Australia at the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2023 an article on the same topic was officially published. 😀

Zoom fatigue is not burnout. It’s boreout.
New study: when meetings are virtual, we’re not overwhelmed—we’re understimulated. Cardiac measures show drowsiness, not stress.
The antidotes are common sense but not common practice: fewer, shorter, more interactive online meetings.
It's scary that IN Republican policies have resulted in some of the highest rates of maternal & infant mortality in the nation. I'll be fighting to support the lives and health of pregnant women and babies. Watching #HALLOWEEN horrors is the only time I want to be this spooked.
At least 30 Maine school districts and colleges are closed today because lawmakers chose to give dangerous men unfettered access to weapons of war.
We don’t have to live like this.
We don’t have to die like this.
Are you struggling to get ahold of your student loan servicer too? Are you like me and have been trying for weeks?@usedgov and @MOHELA need to do more to support borrowers.

@WendyHassonMD Just because people worked clinically while pregnant, doesn’t mean we should expect the same today. Our views on work/life has changed. We need to do better as a field. There is evidence that shows physicians who are pregnant and babies have worse health outcomes.
