Over the weekend, the University of Florida disbanded their College Republicans chapter on nebulous accusations of "Antisemitism"

Before overviewing the Facts, let us be perfectly clear: The 1st Amendment protects Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Peacable Assembly for political organizations on campus. There is no "Hate Speech" exception to the 1st Amendment.

THE FACTS:

-The University of Florida claims it was informed by the Florida Federation of College Republicans, who are not the parent organization of UFCR

-48 hours prior, UFCR hosted candidate for Florida Governor James Fishback at an event with 500+ attendees. Fishback, polling at 5% in traditional polls and 12% on Kelshi betting markets, has consistently publicly critiqued Israel on the campaign trail.

-The National Federation of College Republicans, a smaller and unaffiliated College Republican organization, supported this action retweeting Florida Senator Rick Scott's support of the disbanding.

-College Republicans of America, the parent organization of UFCR, have been under pressure from figures such as Joel Berry, James Lindsay, Mark Levin, and the ADL for weeks for their appointment of Kai Schwemmer, a young activist who has similarly critiqued Israel publicly, to Political Director, with calls for organized boycotts.

Free Speech is a non-partisan issue, and threats to Free Speech on Taxpayer-funded University campuses must be taken seriously, no matter where they arise from. The John Birch Society urges the administration of the University of Florida to re-instate the UF College Republicans and to publicly re-commit itself to Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly, and the Free Exchange of Ideas.
