one of My students was upset because someone mispronounced her name. another student told her “it’s ok, my name is long too.” This was a perfect time to read the book “Alma” and then have them share their full names. They were so happy doing it @JoseMedinaJr89#SéMiNombreCompleto
What's your favorite way of helping trans and non-binary students feel comfortable in class? My favorite first day hack is that I call everyone's last names and the student tells me their first name and how to pronounce it. No one has to hear their name mispronounced or wrong.
I just spent an hour and a half trying to learn all my students names and their correct pronunciations. I had a student last year tell me that some of teachers always mispronounced their name and it bothered them. The only thing worse would be to not know their name.
