Bandcamp has officially banned music generated wholly or substantially by AI, reinforcing its commitment to human creativity and artist-community connections.
The platform states that "music is much more than a product to be consumed" and that the "human connection found through music is a vital part of our society and culture." Further, "the fact that Bandcamp is home to such a vibrant community of real people making incredible music is something [they] want to protect and maintain."
Any AI tools used to impersonate artists or styles are strictly prohibited, and suspected AI-generated content will be removed from the site. Users are encouraged to report music that appears heavily reliant on generative AI for team review. The policy is an extension of Bandcamp's mission, continuing to prioritize supporting working musicians who thrive through direct fan relationships. Bandcamp promises to update the policy as the AI landscape evolves.
