Happy International Day of #WomenInDiplomacy!
Under my Presidency of the UNGA, I convened a dialogue with women diplomats from various Missions. They raised some important points
1⃣that women diplomats have contributed significantly to global diplomacy, and international negotiations
2⃣that they continue to face a number of challenges, some specific to the field of diplomacy, but within the broader context as well
From these discussions was born the idea of an International Day to address these issues.
I was honoured to preside over the meeting that adopted the Maldives led resolution with the co-sponsorship of 191 Member States,
Today, I congratulate the courage and perseverance of women diplomats here in the Maldives and around the world. And underscore the need to continue efforts to address gender discrimination, violence against women, and structural inequalities that continue to hinder women's full and meaningful participation in public life.
Honored to participate in @WFD_Democracy Maldives' cross-party workshop bringing together women political leaders!
Excited to help launch the Network of Women Leaders (#NWL) - building bridges across party lines to strengthen women's leadership.
