This is the perfect illustration of what is wrong with Britain's trade union movement.

When she was standing for election as general secretary, the routinely imperialist-aligned Nato-serving warmonger Sharon Graham was held up to us all as a great 'leftist' and 'militant'.

She would 'hold Labour's feet to the fire', we were told before she caved and gave unconditional support to Starmer and co despite their open aim to be the most pro-business Labour government ever, and while they were supporting Israeli genocide unconditionally.

This is the true essence of her political alignment. Indeed, the only mobilising activities we've seen her give full union backing to have been in support of Nato's war against Russia:

• mobilising Unite members to refuse to fuel a Russian ship

• mobilising a Unite arms workers demonstration to demand more arms spending now

• and now this criticism of Labour's alleged 'failure' to beat the war drums loud enough and slash enough public services in pursuit of money for armaments

Take note: when we say workers can be mobilised against the war machine, there is a deafening silence from such union leaders.

It's quite another matter when it comes to mobilising them to get behind the war machine.

The British working class will achieve nothing in its own class interests, and will not know a single day of prosperity or peace, while such charlatans and demagogues are allowed to lead our organisations.

Prior to capitalism, people did starve because there was no food. However, under capitalism, people continue to starve but for a different reason: there is now too much food in production and it cannot be sold at a profit because of poverty; a necessary poverty created at one pole is necessary to concentrate wealth at the other. In other words, capitalism cannot feed the world because its priority is profit for a few and not social-need for the many. This poverty is not merely on a national scale but on an international scale. Finance capitalists, imperialists, export the surplus capital that they cannot valorise to the nations that are trying to develop on their own, effectively sabotaging their development, plundering their surplus value and subjugating them with charades and slogans of 'freedom' and 'democracy'.

Crazy that this is getting barely any coverage. This year’s European Press Prize was just awarded to an investigative report by the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant. It is entitled “What the Wounds Tell” and in it the journalists Maud Effting and Willem Feenstra document the cases of 114 children in Gaza under the age of 15 who were struck by a single bullet to the head or chest. Almost all of them died or were left severely disabled. They chose to document only the cases of boys and girls under the age of 15 (though often much younger: aged 3, 4 or 7) because these are children who can be immediately identified as such. “A single bullet in these parts of the body is a clear indication that these children were deliberately targeted“, the two journalists write.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing the Iranian nation’s strong determination to decisively defend its security and national interests at any point it deems appropriate, recalls that the ceasefire in Lebanon was an integral part of the ceasefire agreement dated April 8th, 2026, and that the U.S. government bears direct responsibility for the violations of this ceasefire by the Zionist regime and the consequences thereof, as well as any increase in tension in the region.
