At the heart of the conversation was the question of trust.
As our Executive Director @carole_gaita noted, “Trust is the bedrock of democracy.” It cannot thrive where the rule of law is weakened, civic space is shrinking, or citizens do not feel heard and included.

We are delighted to be part of the 6th African Conference on Debt and Development (AfCoDD VI), alongside partners and civil society actors working to advance a more accountable and equitable financial future for Africa.
Today’s discussions are exploring a critical question: How do we move Africa’s Common Position on Debt from a declaration of intent to a binding and implementable programme?
The Day 2 keynote session, brings together leading voices including Prof. Jean-Emmanuel Pondi, Prof. Horman Chitonge, Hon. Dr. Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala and Prof. Grieve Chelwa to examine Africa’s debt challenges and the need for stronger institutional and political action.
As Africa continues to navigate complex debt and development challenges, strong institutions, transparency and accountability must remain at the heart of the conversation.
💬 What do you think Africa needs to do to turn its commitments on debt into real action and lasting change?

Accountability means following the money. Transparency means showing the public what was found. And fighting corruption means acting on it.
These are some of the hard-earned wins reflected in the recommendations of the People’s Audit Report. The World Bank’s decision to ban Webmasters Kenya Ltd from participating in World Bank-financed projects for a minimum of five years following findings of fraudulent and obstructive practices.
But accountability cannot be selective.
We continue to demand the publication of Kenya’s IMF Governance and Corruption Diagnostic.
If a diagnostic was commissioned to identify vulnerabilities in governance, corruption and the management of public resources, Kenyans have a legitimate interest in knowing what it found and what must change.
You cannot fight corruption behind closed doors.
The People’s Audit has consistently called for greater transparency, stronger accountability and institutions that protect public resources.
The World Bank action shows that consequences are possible.
Now let the diagnostic see the light of day. Publish it. Let Kenyans scrutinise it. Let accountability begin.

ONE YEAR TO 2027: THE WORK STARTS NOW.
As Kenya counts down to the 2027 General Election, the message from todays High-Level Meeting to unveil the CSO/Uchaguzi Minimum Electoral Reforms and 12-Month Advocacy Roadmap was clear: credible elections are built long before election day.
From electoral and legal reforms to voter registration, campaign finance, institutional accountability and public trust, stakeholders emphasized the need for urgent, coordinated action.
For @TIKenya Executive Director, @SheiMasinde , the roadmap provides a clear path of action between now and August 2027. She stressed that there is no room for working in silos; civil society, institutions, Parliament and citizens must work together to deliver meaningful reforms.
The @IEBCKenya Acting CEO, Ruth Kulundu, underscored that the legitimacy of an election is built throughout the electoral cycle, beginning with the integrity of the voters’ register and extending through nominations, campaigns and beyond.
Speakers also highlighted trust as one of the biggest challenges facing Kenya’s electoral process and called for greater transparency, evidence-based monitoring, citizen participation and stronger institutions.
The road to 2027 has begun. What we do now will shape the election we have then.

"The other aspect that has come up is the question of trust deficit in the processes and institutions. We must share information, work together and ensure inclusive processes to ensure that the public is able to trust what we aim to deliver in regard to the elections.
We also want to urge Parliament to really pick up its role in facilitating the amendments and some of the actions that need Parliamentary input." ~ @SheiMasinde@TIKenya

Money should never determine the outcome of an election.
Through the @Uchaguzi_Kenya , @TIKenya and other partner organisations @CMDKenya , @CRECOKenya , @elogkenya , @ELGIA_Africa , @fidakenya and @MzalendoWatch submitted a memorandum to the @IEBCKenya calling for stronger Election Campaign Financing Regulations and spending limits that promote transparency, accountability and equal participation in Kenya's electoral process.
The memorandum highlights key gaps in the current framework, including weak enforcement, limited transparency, legal loopholes and barriers that disadvantage women, youth, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups. It also proposes practical reforms to strengthen oversight, financial disclosure, compliance and accountability.
As Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election, effective campaign finance regulation is essential to reducing the influence of money in politics, creating a level playing field for all candidates and safeguarding electoral integrity.
📖 Watch the video to learn more about our recommendations and why campaign finance reform matters.

Judicial accountability must be resolved to restore public confidence in the Administration of Justice
The National Integrity Alliance (NIA) stands in solidarity with the @lawsocietykenya following its targeted boycott of proceedings before specified judges and judicial officers over unresolved concerns surrounding judicial accountability.
While the current developments may appear to concern the legal profession, they raise a much broader issue: the cost of justice to every Kenyan when public confidence in the justice system begins to erode.
NIA is calling for:
✔️ Expedited, transparent and lawful resolution of disciplinary and administrative processes involving judicial officers
✔️ Independent investigations into allegations of corruption and prosecution where the evidentiary threshold is met
✔️ Stronger systems to prevent, detect and address judicial corruption
✔️ Safe and effective whistleblower, complaints and feedback mechanisms
✔️ Urgent reforms across the criminal justice sector to tackle corruption and unethical conduct
✔️ Constructive engagement by all justice sector actors to strengthen judicial independence, accountability and public trust
Justice is not the concern of judges and lawyers alone. Every Kenyan has a stake in ensuring that justice remains accessible, accountable, transparent and worthy of public trust.

The @IEBCKenya in partnership with @TIKenya@ELGIA_Africa convened political parties in Machakos for a stakeholder engagement on the draft Election Campaign Financing Regulations and proposed contribution, expenditure and spending limits.
The engagement, themed “Campaign Finance Regulation in Kenya: A Constitutional Framework for Transparency, Political Equality, Accountability and Electoral Integrity,” provided an opportunity for political parties to discuss the importance of regulating campaign financing ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Mr. Titus Gitonga, who represented the @TIKenya Executive Director at the engagement, emphasized the importance of transparent and accountable campaign financing in safeguarding free and fair elections, noting that the influence of money in politics can undermine political equality, encourage voter bribery and compromise electoral integrity.
TI-Kenya remains committed to supporting @IEBCKenya political parties and other stakeholders in strengthening election campaign finance regulation, promoting public participation, and leveraging innovation and technology to enhance oversight and accountability.
Impeachment must have consequences.
As part of the National Integrity Alliance (NIA), @TIKenya stands in solidarity with our partners @thekhrc@nisisikenya@TISAKenya in calling for the integrity of public office to be upheld as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Elections
We call for accountability and ethical leadership and urge all relevant institutions to uphold the constitutional principles of integrity and protect public trust.
The 2027 General Elections must be a turning point when integrity is upheld, public trust is protected, and accountability is enforced.
