I have a sneaky suspicion that AI build out names will struggle from here. There are a number of headwinds ahead: build out demand not clear from 2028 (massive capacity coming online in 26 & 27), higher rates, midterm elections impact on the pace of build out, margin profile. If OpenAI and Anthropic do slow down meaningfully from here due to open source competition, the aggressive take up of commitments is likely to slow down with them.
So who benefits in the world of abundant intelligence? The value shifts up the stack to applications. And there are very few players at the application layer that are demonstrating clear acceleration. So I believe the capital flow into these few names will pick up from here as investors look for alternatives to the build out group.
I like $SNOW as a clear benefactor of this trend. And I like $ZS as a laggard and catch up story. Both are entrenched and both are in the token flow - whether frontier or open source.
We shall see what the next few months deliver.
