Sheriffs are elected politicians as well as law enforcement officers.

This gives them a lot more freedom in what to say, right or wrong.

A police chief hired by a city manager, in many cases, does not have that kind of freedom.

A California sheriff says an armed suspect killed a deputy and barricaded himself when an eviction notice was served — but is now dead and "got what he deserved."

I've heard this before then finding drugs on someone, usually search incident to arrest.

"These aren't my pants."

Almost every single time.

62 officers shot.

7 killed.

Almost one a day.

That is the current pace.

Most of their names will never be known nationally.

Most of the stories will fade in 24 hours.

The consequences do not.

Keep your heads on a swivel out there! Some folks believe Iran had lots of sleeper cells here in the USA. Officers will be the front line meeting that threat.

There was already a mass shooting in Austin last night. Thankfully, three officers were nearby and stopped the threat.

Cops do tend to lean conservative, not always, but often.

Starting off the shift with a prayer of God's providence and protection is the best prescription for the believing officer.

Someone will always come along and tell you that you're wrong no matter that you're doing.

So long as you have a firm foundation in what you're doing, don't pay attention to them. Certain human beings have a tendency to believe if you're not doing it their way, it's wrong.
