Wow. The Government has officially admitted to me that through the 'Government Communication Service' it 'collects, stores, and processes data from public social media posts.'

Why? 'to address potential mis/disinformation.'

They are using AI for 'information environment analysis'.

Posts about migration are included as part of 'wider thematic reporting'.

They 'share aggregate social media analysis with partner governments'. Strange, isn't it? Why would that be needed?

The British government position over ‘recognising Palestine’ is unravelling fast tonight. Or at least bereft of logical explanation.
From official UK government statements it seems that Keir Starmer’s position is that, if a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is reached because Hamas releases all hostages, the UK will NOT recognise Palestine. Not sure what’s in it for Hamas.
But if no ceasefire is reached because Hamas refuses to release all hostages, the UK WILL recognise Palestine (whatever that means). Talk about perverse incentives.
With Starmer in Downing Street and Lamy at the Foreign Office they are increasingly the Keystone Cops of UK foreign policy.

The government signed off plans to spend £7 billion of taxpayers’ money bringing 25,000 Afghans to the UK while a 'superinjunction' kept taxpayers and MPs in the dark. It was signed off by the Chancellor Rachel Reeves and other Cabinet ministers on October 7 last year.

This is duplicitous smoke and mirrors governance and an affront to democracy and taxpayers. This huge sum of public money should be fully transparent and accountable to debate within parliament.

At a time when farmers, pensioners, small businesses and the disabled are being hammered by the government because of a “£22bn black hole”, secretly spending £7bn of public money on bringing 25,000 Afghans to the UK is simply unacceptable.
