@DanNeidle I read a lot of the articles on this and my overriding opinion of them was along the lines of, that’s a great analysis of the human rights position, but they really need to consult a tax lawyer. Newsflash: private schools already pay tax: VAT, PAYE…
“Indeed, you would struggle invent a policy more perfectly designed to increase the gender pay gap than austerity”

@Richard_Asquith I think it will most likely depend on the precise wording of the contracts and drafting, but it feels very unlikely to work in any way that would be commercially acceptable to both parties.
“I understand that a strong woman standing up to you is met with such reticence,” replies Jess Phillips to a group of men intimidating after her win.
Jess then tells of how a young woman delivering leaflets yesterday was filmed and screamed at by an older man, who then slashed her tyres.
Huge respect to Jess.
My enduring memory of recent politics will be this food pack the govt gave free school meals kids to live in for ONE WEEK during a Covid lockdown. I can’t find the original thread I did with the photos but the Mirror wrote it up here. The sauce sachets…

Kevan Collins has been an outstanding force for driving high & rising standards in schools.
He stood up for our children in the pandemic when the Tories failed them.
Delighted he’ll be working with Labour to shape a brighter future for our children.

@DanNeidle The IRS requires additional verification for tax refunds over a certain limit. It’s good that they do this but boy does it slow down their “quick refund” process.
A brilliant, balanced article on tax from a tax academic I personally admire. The only thing I’d add is that, in my experience, for most people the only fair tax is one that someone else pays. That’s the conversation that we need to have.
Tax cuts, again, with limited consideration of trade-offs. We could discard it as 'election year' talk, if it wasn't so consequential. But it is. Tax policy impacts every single person in this country, and it requires strategic thinking.
