I don't know if I'll *definitely* go for a full-on post-ownership-change departure of Twitter to #CounterSocial, but it's possible and perhaps likely - especially if others join me.
I'm @ ShinyBat there.
@scattermoon While I never nommed at one of these places because it wasn't my kind of sensory, I always enjoyed noticing their existence when I walked to the singing teacher I had who used the piano shop on Edgware Road as a Zone 1 teaching base (this was when I worked in Zone 1).
@epistemophagy@Koolasuchus Already the chair of Kick It Out (the UK-based organisation campaigning against discrimination in football) is on record as fearing that "industrial-scale levels of hate during the WC will go unchecked"
England-Iran is the second match of the tournament. That's going to be "fun"
@The_Arn Upon learning the Lazy Jay backing was an original song in its own right, I wondered what Azealia *actually* bought to this song. Maybe "chaos energy" is it, it certainly fits why I still think the song's better for her despite finding her lyrics Utterly Unrelatable...
@ismathers@peoples_pop I (the Caramelldansen nominator) also don't remember seeing the meme much! Though I do remember one upload getting the incredible YouTube comment in 2020 that went along the lines of:
"Extroverts during quarantine: *screams*
Introverts during quarantine: doing this dance"
@Kajehase @tomewing@idca__@peoples_pop It doesn't, because it's two minutes too long ;)
(But I see what you mean, and I rate it enough that it was an unused bonus nom on my Closers slate)
@actualeesimpson@peoples_pop My experience of it is as part of the dance compliations I loved at the time - it sounded almost chilled compared to the multiple Ferry Corstens in a trenchcoat that would show up on these compliations (and which I built an entire 1999 poll slate out of!)
@tomewing@idca__@peoples_pop If I'd done an Uncool 50 I suspect "Pull Shapes" would've been in it - genuinely think it's the greatest Eurovision entry the BBC never had.
@peoples_pop Cleopatra's one of my noms so had to vote for it, but the early returns are *harsh* on Klubbheads, a glorious dance earworm that's bringing back just as many childhood memories as Cleopatra thanks to its appearance on at least one dance compilation we had in the house!
@matt_laycock @tomewing@peoples_pop I did too. Maybe the people who would have tactically voted to stop the problematic Spice and Eminem singles here (though at least the latter's *good*!) have all fled to Mastodon. (I've 90% left here myself, with CounterSocial my first escape hatch and Mastodon my second)
@DaisyLetourneur @peoples_pop Absolutely not. This was an unnervingly easy vote for MF DOOM but it really isn't on quality in Em's case, at this point in his career he was putting out 10/10 execution of 1/10 ideas on a regular basis and this is extremely not an exception
@epistemophagy This is, indeed, almost exactly what happened with CounterSocial (though in that case the specific instigation for the split was their policy to IP-block six entire countries where bot/troll farms thrive)
@peoples_pop This deserves to be close, and is, but went BSBs for the sheer joy I've had with the call-and-response bridge and flipping the response to "am I sexual?" to "no"
I wonder if I ever did that at uni karaoke. Right time for me to come out as ace as well...
@peoples_pop Putting Ice Ice Baby in a group with S'Express is brilliant because it, too, relies on inspired sampling.
(Voted S'Express anyway, still one heck of a delightful shot of pop energy)
