Part of the job is to help handle a remote breakdown. They’re rare but not non existent.

Normally a pretty easy fix, just call a few mobile mechanics in the area and coordinate with a trailer dealer to pickup the part.

Every renter uploads their license and insurance before they get the lockbox code. Sounds like friction. It’s actually the opposite - the people who won’t do that are exactly the ones you don’t want anywhere near your trailer. The paperwork filters more than it slows.

Sturgis is one of those weeks I book out months ahead. Every enclosed trailer gone at once, all hauling bikes west. A handful of events like that a year do a lot of the heavy lifting for the whole business.

Yard filled back up overnight — Sturgis rentals all came home. Funny how it goes from empty to packed in about 48 hours. Bike week’s good to the trailer business.

I’ve rented trailers to hundreds of people I’ve never met or spoken to. Lockbox code, GPS on the unit, photos before and after. The whole thing runs while I’m doing something else. Took me a while to trust it, but the system holds.

My wife on our evening walk: “you’re stressing me out with all these pursuits. Pick two and let’s actually talk about those.” She’s not wrong. That might be the whole problem in one sentence.

Most of what I do at an auction is not bid. You’d be surprised how much money is made by knowing which stuff to leave alone. The yard’s full of “deals” that just become somebody else’s problem sitting in the corner.

People assume the biggest, fanciest trailer is the best one to own. My steadiest earner is the deckover. Nothing flashy about it. It just stays booked all year while the seasonal stuff comes and goes.
