This is 6 years old, still relevant. Almost all factors have improved in favour of EVs since then. Price efficiency may still not stack up. However, Mining of the materials, specially in NMC batteries remains a humanitarian issue and hasn't improved.
Chellaney just dropped a piece in The Hill claiming US double standards on “nuclear Islamism” — slamming Pakistan while avoiding the mirror. Sounds bold… until you flip the lens.
If the real issue is selective nonproliferation, America’s biggest South Asian beneficiary has never been Pakistan. It’s India.
India’s proliferation and testing of so called peaceful nuclear weapon explosion was the reason of creation NSG a year later. Later, foregoing proliferation history, it was bestowed the exceptional 2008 waiver.
In Feb 2025, the US doubled down: full civil nuclear cooperation, American-designed reactors in India, plus tech transfers in missiles, air defense & undersea domains.
Pakistan keeps its all civilian reactors under IAEA safeguards. India runs nearly a dozen outside safeguards.
India built its arsenal outside the NPT, expanded it (at least 180 warheads per SIPRI 2025. Pakistani academic estimates consider it between 300 and 450 warheads at least and growing), re-tested Agni-5 with MIRV capability in Aug 2025, and fields near-ICBM reach (8,000+ km). Yet it’s rewarded with strategic partnership.
“Nuclear Islamism” is a civilizational slur that shifts the debate from safeguards, command structures and deterrence to faith-based suspicion.
Nukes belong to states and institutions, not religious labels.
Drag religion in? India’s 1998 tests were framed by Vajpayee as civilizational resolve. Its nuclear posture increasingly fuses with Hindutva identity politics. The same logic echoes back. Is Indian nuclear enterprise a Hindutva driven program?
Chellaney pretends Pakistan is frozen in the A.Q. Khan era. Recall Joshua Pollack’s 2012 Playboy piece “The Secret Treachery of A.Q. Khan” — it suggests India was network’s fourth “customer.” Khan acted independently and faced consequences. India proliferated as a state. Playboy removed it and Google scrubbed all traces for unknown reasons but Carnegie republished it.
Chellaney doesn’t expose double standards. He redistributes them by shielding India’s rewarded breakout, long-range buildup and ideological fusion while slapping a sectarian label on the other side.
Drop the “nuclear Islamism” branding. Address who actually gets indulged in South Asia.
@Chellaney took wrong skeletons out of closet at @thehill to shift the limelight on Pakistan as an Extra-Regional Security Stabliser and India out of press. Live with it.

My sons Sulaiman & @kasim_khan_1999 applied for visas in January (again… ) to allow them to visit their father @ImranKhanPTI in Pakistan. The Pakistan consulate states that online visa processing normally takes 7–10 working days. It has now been 60 days. This despite the public promise that they could safely travel there to see their father after 4 years, made by both Defence Minister @khawajaMAsif to @mehdirhasan & PM spokesperson @mosharrafzaidi to @SkyYaldaHakim
Meanwhile, they are not allowed to speak to him on the phone, nor send him a letter. They haven’t seen him since 2022 after he was shot in an assassination attempt.
This is an appeal directly to Pakisan’s PM @CMShehbaz to please allow Imran Khan’s two sons to see their father asap, particularly since, by all accounts, his health is in decline.
Let me explain Ayden. Over ten years ago the American social media giants had a content problem. They needed humans to look at all content marked objectionable and decide if it would stay on platform based on their policies. When they tried it with Americans the content was so gruesome with self harm, nudity, violence it gave them mental wellness issues. So like all services business Americans outsourced this business of “live moderation” to India with Indian companies like Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, Genpact, Wipro, Accenture India, HCL bidding for and winning these contracts. We are talking about tens of thousands of people. During 2018 when India fought above Pakistan in the skies and had a plane shot down and its pilot captured, videos of that incident started being put on social media. Yet people who put the videos up suddenly had those videos taken down. No one understood what was happening. Lots of people blamed Meta Google needing India as one of its biggest markets so enforcing this from above. But it was never that. The guys doing live moderation were taking initiative to use existing policy tags to take videos down. This meant if you put a video of the plane shot down and burning and put it on Facebook the moderator would have already built a process whereby video was recognized tagged as “porn” and taken down and you being sent a message on Facebook saying you put porn up so it was taken down. That was the approved flow and as far as Facebook thought that was actually a porn video and was dealt with as per policy. Policy enforcement was also delegated locally and the one white guy in the loop was too distant and relied on his vendors and was at best used for escalations. India’s ruling party suddenly realized that they had the power to decide what goes on social media platforms and ensured that supporters of BJP, the ruling party which campaigns on a religious hindu first platform, populated all the live moderation teams and started using them for their own ends. By now certain cities in India like Pune, Bengaluru, Gurugram and especially Hyderabad had become global hubs of live moderation talent with thousands upon thousands of people who knew how to navigate moderation of social media platforms. This was critical as it was an arms race between people who made bots and people who took them down and the Indians because of these contracts became the best in the world at creating bot farms. These services of bots started being offered to the world. These live moderation contracts started winding down 2019 onwards and those laid off people were absorbed into these companies who by now had state support of BJP government which was also their biggest client. India then started offering these bot farms as nonkinetic military information warfare services. Israel and Russia who run their own massive bot networks (Israel’s is the largest in the world) started using these companies for augmentation. Russia especially relied on them post Ukraine invasion. The reason Russian bot activity declined last few days was because in the end they are Indians controlled by military agencies and were deployed to the task of promoting Indian agendas. This is why hundreds of thousands of accounts with <100 followers were replying to every thread on the war topic last couple of days. Here is some mapping done for one such network that is focusing on Baluchistan.
You have to watch this immensely revealing and horrifying testimony by Jewish-American humanitarian surgeon Mark Perlmutter who spent 2 weeks in Gaza: https://t.co/9Ku1axTPyw
"All of the disaster zones I've seen combined - combined - 40 mission trips, 30 years, ground zero, earthquakes, all of that combined doesn't equal the level of carnage that I saw against civilians in just my first week in Gaza.
(Host: and when you say civilians, is it mostly children?)
Almost exclusively children, I've never seen that before."
BREAKING: An independent UN investigation has concluded that Israel committed crimes against humanity during the war in Gaza, including the crime of “extermination”.

The fearless young hero who stopped a suicide bomber from entering his school and saved hundreds of lives, 2014
On January 6th, 2014, 15-year-old Aitzaz Hasan looked death right in its eyes and challenged it. The young man was attending his high school in Hangu Village in Pakistan, which had a reputation for anti-terrorist attitudes. The school had an estimated student body of 2,000 students.
As he was walking to school with two friends, Hasan noticed a suspicious man walking towards the school, who seemed like he was carrying something under his clothes. Hasan and his friends then noticed there was a detonator attached to under the man's clothing. This mysterious man was a suicide bomber who was about to walk into the school to murder as many children as possible. Hasan made his way towards the terrorist while ignoring his friend's pleas not to. Hasan said to them "I'm going to stop him, he is going to school to kill my friends". Hasan's friends ran inside the school to raise the alarm. Hasan, however, stood his ground. He threw a rock at his attacker but missed. With no other options, Hasan charged the terrorist and tackled him to the ground. In response, the terrorist activated the detonator, killing himself as well as Hasan.
Hasan was the only death as a result of the blast. His heroic actions saved many lives that day. His school was renamed Aitzaz Hasan Shaheed High School. General of the army staff Raheel Sharif said that Aitzaz Hasan is "a national hero, who has sacrificed his today for our tomorrow." He is also described as a "symbol of resistance against terrorism." He has also been named as a martyr of Pakistan. He also received an award for his bravery.
Hasan's family was given compensation. His father said, "My son made his mother cry but saved hundreds of mothers from crying for their children." The 2016 film, Salute, is based on Hasan and his heroic actions.
