Today is a special day in our calendar as we celebrate women and the immeasurable contribution they have made to humanity and to the world. I join my country and the world in raising a toast to women. We appreciate you immensely! Happy women’s day!
Bill 10 failed to garner consensus. I did not support it. Bill 7 has divided us and brought so much controversy. I do not support it. Our constitution can be changed but it should not be touched in the prevailing circumstances. I implore our MP’s to say NO to bill 7.
It’s 11.22 and the Guest of honour at the Zambia College of Medicine and Surgery graduation ceremony slated for 8 am is still not here. How can we advance as a country with such a cavalier attitude to time keeping? We need to do better.
@DavidKa07247477 I think that it would be a Herculean task to separate the two. The process birthed the Bill. If one is unconstitutional, the other is no different.
In my view, the Judgment of the Constitutional Court delivered today deals a mortal blow to Bill 7. I doubt very much whether an unconstitutional Bill may be deferred. The right thing to do now, is to withdraw the Bill altogether. There is no other way.
This is the right thing to do. Broad consultation, prior to presentation of any amendment proposals, is absolutely necessary otherwise the process will lack legitimacy.
Resolution of the ECL burial impasse is paramount. Fractures in the country causing division must be mended. Mature leadership is key to achieving this. The hatchet must be buried if we are to move on. May God give wisdom and the spirit of compromise to both sides. This must end.
So much fake information being peddled. It’s made me dizzy! We’ve become a nation that thrives on falsehoods. We need to take a stand to curb this vice. #abashfakenews
H.E ECL’s story has been told. I understand the anguish by his family and the PF, but he was President for all Zambians. Maturity is needed from both sides so that the temperature is reduced. Middle ground must be sought and found to break this unfortunate impasse. RIP, ECL
LAZ, @LauraMiti and others who have spoken out against the Cybersecurity bill have my support. To me, it is clear that the government has not consulted widely on a Bill that is mischievous. The voices of concerned citizens must be heard and this Bill must be retracted.
@siphophiri I am with you on this one. @ssishuwa speaks loudly on what most would consider uncomfortable topics. He encourages discourse on issues that are hurting the country. For that, he has my respect. Silencing him is not the answer.
What happened today at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus is unacceptable and should be condemned. How many more errors in judgment will it take for it to be clear that a leadership change at the police is desperately needed and long overdue?
Today Judge Shonga and I attended William and Edwina’s nuptials. Here’s to wishing the newly weds an amazing and adventurous union. @Zambianchildamb@ed_summer
@HMDRichmond A lacuna signifies absence. There is no absence of a provision on general elections in our Constitution. The possibility of abuse of Article 52(6) cannot be treated as a lacuna in relation to general elections. Plain and simple. That is the point made by LAZ, which I support.
I agree with LAZ’s conclusion that there is no lacuna in our Constitution as to when general elections are to be held. It is provided for in crystal clear language. August 2026, here we come!
@MuzalaSamukonga Congratulations for a job beautifully executed. You are right; the future looks bright. I know you have inspired countless other Zambians. I have a feeling it will show at the next Olympic Games.
Whether the hint of a plan to extend the presidential term to 7 years is true or fictitious, extension of the presidential term of office, in my view, should be a no go area. On the contrary, I encourage reduction of presidential powers and enhanced separation of powers.
