https://t.co/tCAxyHYG0B now points to a dildo maker wiki! It's just a start...as much stuff as could be shoved into the cloud in the time I could take off. Commenting is currently ON for all pages and there are plenty of available editor seat licenses. 1/3
Ok TCT Shenzhen had a bunch of machines I couldn't have found without going. Very seriously interested in these with a print height in high resolution resin of 27" π For reference the "massive" Jupiter 2 only hits 12"
I have my interpreter in Shenzhen going to TCT (one of the biggest 3d printing trade shows in the world) to check out some new tech for me. If anyone has companies they want info on or pictures / videos of machines hit my DMs so we can check em out for you while there π
@infinityshroom You hit f12 then inspect element then search for .glb and open the link in a new tab. Boom you have their 3d file ready to send to your 3d printer π Id feel bad about saying that but it's one of the first reddit posts when you Google "get a 3d file from a Shopify store" sooo π€·
Reminder that Shopifie's 3D viewer can be EASILY mined for the source file. πππ If you are using it to show your toys there is a 100% chance the design will eventually show up on Alibaba. I've noticed this feature gaining traction again and checked that it is still as easy as right click to inspect element and then download.
Got the chance to test the first full metal molds fresh from manufacturing and all I can say is WOW.
β’ Reduces stickness of super soft silicone like 0020 (when oven cured)
β’ Detail fidelity is absurd
β’ VERY large sizes possible
β’ Can be put in the oven for full cure in <15 minutes
β’ No mold release needed
β’ Never wears out
I have a lot of other work in progress before this tech becomes available from me but wanted to share. Also this cutie croc design I made as a throw away test is so cute and I should probably find a home for it.
@celloknightkc Speaking of metal allergies, if you want a real head scratcher go look up the material stents are made out of. I asked about why that doesn't cause reactions when I was observing procedures in the Hopkins cath lab and the Dr was like π€· they just don't.
No not at all. Metal molds are used in 99.99% of all silicone medical device manufacturing already (With the exception of contact lens manufacturers where clear plastic molds are sometimes used). Toys come out ready to use and do not require washing to remove mold release or other processing aids like a silicone mold would. However, you should still wash the toy because who knows what else it touched after the mold.
@Dr_Boomerang If a two part mold was acceptable (mold parting lines can be present) then it's easier to move to a CNC machined mold set for most things and then protolabs is a pretty easy go to.
It's not flexible so some shapes are difficult to remove. You can Google electrforming to understand how the molds are manufactured. It's possible to do at home for small items. For larger items it's difficult. You either need to fork out crazy money for the equipment or you need to build a relationship with an electrforming company and convince them to take piecemeal work which has its own challanges.
