@kakashiii111 just schedule a call with any frontier chinese and they'll tell you they have access to the latest chips without even being prompted. this has been an open secret for years
Except for ONE lab, the infra at frontier labs is so tuned to the current architecture paradigm that it'll be near impossible for them to build a linear model like Kimi.
This means that we should very well use these models to get a better understanding of the deployment process
We must NOT let our companies use these Chinese models to save a few bucks. OpenAI and Anthropic are correct. This is vital national security. Please read Bing West's just released Cat 5. I respect the Chinese people greatly but these companies are run by the PLA for heaven's sakes.
Not out of the question to see a USG-controlled initiative here.
Plenty of precedence across history, most recently with China's state-controlled data collection efforts.
Good point from a locked account:
Prepare for VCs to be increasingly loud about the importance of open source + right for US companies to distill models
This is because a world where most AI value accrues to the frontier labs makes the VC job difficult, if not impossible
"In terms of the technical approaches to AGI, we've always had the broadest and deepest research bench"
Case in point from Semafor's interview with Demis. He may be biased but it's absolutely true.

people don't realize how deep google's research bench is
the perceived leaders are NOT the brains behind everything
it's the constant churning of new ai researchers that make new contributions.
john jumper was never going to make more contributions after protein folding
@Bkclaims i'd argue that there's significant utility in deeper order books
yes, there will be idiots that lose money, similar to the stock market
but the second and third order effect could be immensely positive. for that to happen, more players need to be involved (and be incentivized)
Cboe Global Markets, Inc. announced Tuesday that it has brought back a type of S&P 500 contract after a hiatus of more than a decade, which in the meantime has become a popular mainstay of prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket. https://t.co/YpJbcxHaeV
Son is not a typical gambler. When he makes a bet, he goes all in. That approach has taken SoftBank on a roller coaster ride over the years.
Its bet on OpenAI is the riskiest one Son has made since the dot-com era.
Read my full article to learn more about Masayoshi Sonโs profile, SoftBankโs history, and the companyโs massive bet on OpenAI.

@eightyhi only edge comes from unique data points that you can collect yourself of pay someone to collect - e.g., a camera sitting in an apartment across from openai's office to gauge employee traffic
country of geniuses in the data center? nah, lets build a country of degens in a data center
all jokes aside, we are are entering into an age of hyper information and hyper discovery. agents will only add fuel
only a matter of time before Hayek's idea becomes reality
i have a lot of thoughts on how an โagentic perp brokerageโ might work - would be willing to incubate a project like this through @ufo_holdings!
please let me know if you are building in this area and/or have a differentiated / strong POV on how consumers might use this
just look at the authorship overlap across AlphaEvolve, Olympiad-level reasoning, and Co-Scientist: Pushmeet Kohli is on all three, while Alex Davies, Ottavia Bertolli, and Demis Hassabis bridge two of the three.
THAT'S IT!

$GOOGL Google is getting hit on worries about its standing at the frontier of the AI model market, but lately some are wondering why anyone would want to be at the very cutting edge of the frontier given costs that seem to scale higher with revenue while Washington clamps down on the industry with draconian controls as model capabilities grow more sophisticated
There's a reason why CME and ICE are partnering with compute companies. They NEED to find a new source of revenue with CFTC's recent move favoring Kalshi. It's only a matter of time before Polymarket comes onshore.
Fungibility will be a major issue with the finacialization of compute. An index is a short term solution, but there's a reason why you don't have an "index" of different types of oil. Expect significant market turbulence.

SITUATION EXPLAINED: Why does AI compute need a futures market?
We asked @carmenli, founder and CEO of Silicon Data and Compute Exchange:
"We believe compute will be humans' largest resource, surpassing all traditional energy combined, so oil, gas, and electricity."
"If you're a SaaS company, you only had people costs and then your margin. However, now going forward, everybody has to consume GPU or token. And this can be your largest cost component up to 80% or even 90%."
"If 80-90% of your cost has 40-50% daily volatility, your margin is essentially uncontrollable."
"If American Airlines tells you, 'I cannot hedge my oil prices,' your ticket price can go from $20 to $5k back to $200. How can you plan any trips? You can't."
"Similarly, any companies that heavily rely on GPU or token have to have a way to manage their cost structure so they can have a healthy, manageable margin."
