A8: Find a mentor in the field who has faced challenges along the way. Seek out others who are doing the job and ask them what skills are needed. Do the research - I would tell anyone looking to jump into a new career the same thing #nextchat
A8. Don't be discouraged! Build up your network as you're studying and educate yourself on biases. Be selective when searching for employment and make sure that the company is #inclusive & that you believe in what they are about. Have a mindset of continuous learning. #Nextchat
@SHRMnextchat A4 In every organization I participate I will train the exec’s and managers in D&I. I also ask to have a chair the ethics board to make sure congruence is spoken in the company #NextChat
Q4. HR has a huge role in neutralizing gender bias. How are you tackling this issue in your organization with technology, training and other methods for building awareness? #nextchat#HRTechConf
As great as the conversation on the #nextchat thread has been, the stories being shared live in the room here have been so enlightening and priceless. Love being a part of this #hrtechconf
A8: Find a buddy! I struggled so much when I was growing up as a mech, but I was lucky to have an amazing support system. We encouraged each other and helped each other along the way. Remember, work smarter not harder! It's what got me promoted before my male peers #NextChat
@SHRMnextchat A8: Go for it!!!! Most needed skills depends on the field, position and org’s mission. Be ready to face adversity (not accept it) be able to speak up for yourself (forcibly if necessary) ensure your work outshines others (makes it hard to ignore) #Nextchat
A8: Ensure respect for others & patience to bear the pressure of work, especially in the areas of engineering and technology where the movement and thinking more than administrative work as well as continuing intensive training! #nextchat
Similar story here. I am an outgoing, extroverted person and generally happy and smiling at work. Some people perceive that as not being able to take me seriously... hmm sorry, I'm just a nice, happy person, but very serious about my work. You can't win either way. #nextchat
Q8. What advice do you have for women who would like to pursue a career in technology or another STEM-related field? What skills are most needed? #nextchat#HRTechConf
