I am a Maharashtrian. I hardly ever had to speak in Hindi till graduation. Even when I was doing my PG in Hyderabad, working in Blore, Delhi or Mumbai it was mostly English we spoke.

Then I worked in Chennai. Ironically, I learned to speak in Hindi in Chennai. Mainly because my team members were from the North and most of them not from Delhi and my running group were from all over the place.

My weirdest experience in Chennai was when I told a Tamil Auto driver (who btw spoke good English) that I can’t speak in Hindi properly (and literal translation from Marathi to Hindi at times changes the meaning in Hindi!) so I prefer English. He lectured me the whole way that you need to learn basic Hindi as it’s the most spoken language in India.

My Tamil colleague said his father hated this anti-Hindi agenda and ensured his kids learn Hindi (on a side note he is @jsaideepak fan and is a Muslim!)

Whatever agenda is going around is not a ground reality - at least not to the extent they are portraying it to be… Specially now when we see the response @annamalai_k is getting!

Few stupid ppl don’t represent the sentiment of whole of Southern part of Bharat!
