Likewise. Given Musk and what this site has become I won't be back here. I'll be on and off for a week or so to check for mutuals moving and to catch usernames. But I can't stay here.
The BBC is covering an Open Letter to Western governments from over 100 security, defence, diplomatic and senior political voices across Europe and the USA - warning of a Munich-style sell out of Ukraine. I am a signatory. Sir Huw Strachan live now ...
@DarthFreder It's possible but given that felt snubbed by Zelensky in the last election, it seems unlikely to me. It's his unpredictability that would make me nervous if I was Ukraine. You can't do long term scenarios under a Trump presidency
The only part I disagree with here is on the length of sustainment. Putin can't sustain the way he is currently fighting with current support levels.
He will find new ways of getting support or try different tactics (think even more desperate)
Furthermore, even if Harris is just like Biden, if she wins, and especially if Dems win big in Congress, Putin knows he has another two years before he can even hope for a cutoff of military aid. Four years potentially. He cannot sustain this war much more beyond 2025.
I don't want to hear any German politician say "never again" if Bundeskanzler Scholz represents how most Germans actually feel about Ukraine and Russia. Germany is losing the moral authority it earned over the last 75 years with its appeasement and failure to stand up to Russia.
Sam Charap is one of the foremost external "experts" that the Biden Admin has consulted in crafting their Ukraine policies.
Knowing that explains a lot.
As expected. SK went to NATO first, NATO told them that any 'escalation' may harm NATO readiness to defend SK, SK falls in line. Pathetic and predictable.
If you wonder how the war is going in Ukraine, don't look at the absolute territory or the number of villages that Russia took in Donbas. Look on the rate of change. Unfortunately, Russian advances have accelerated a lot since May 2024, after 1.5 years of stagnation.
If the richest guy on Earth looks like a Russian asset, spews Kremlin talking points like a Russian asset, and does Putin personal “favors” like a Russian asset, maybe he is not just a rich asshole but in fact also a Russian asset

There is a lot of controversy and confusion over the LAT’s decision not to endorse a presidential candidate. I trust the Editorial Board’s judgment. For me, genocide is the line in the sand.
Every once in a while there's a moment that stops you. This is one of them.
Vance not only fails to recognize that Vladimir Putin's Russia -- after years of wanton destruction and killing, assiduously documented -- is very obviously "the bad guy," but he's willing to mock those who refuse to deny that reality. Truly appalling.
