A South Sudanese illegal immigrant has been jailed for turning up at Edgar Wood Academy armed with a hammer, hatchet, kitchen knife and petrol. Douk Deng, 21, was "increasingly frustrated" with immigration authorities when he walked "a full circuit around the school" with his weapons.

The day before, he'd damaged an intercom at another Rochdale school. His solicitor claimed he was just "attention-seeking" in "deep distress" and didn't intend to hurt anyone.

The solicitor defending this animal is part of the problem - making excuses for an armed individual terrorising a school. The damage he could have caused had he been successful is terrifying.

We were potentially seconds away from another child massacre.

Incidents like this are now a daily occurrence.
