We keep talking about AI for African agriculture.
But most AI still assumes the internet is always on.
The reality for millions of smallholder farmers is different:
• Basic phones
• Unreliable or no connectivity
• Limited capital
• Local crops, languages, and markets

Yet offline AI is no longer a future promise.
It is already possible.
Small language models that run on the phone in a farmer’s pocket.
Vision models that identify crop diseases from a single photo — with no signal required.
Advice delivered in local languages, fully offline.

The result changed. But did the system?

Sometimes we see a bad outcome and immediately look for someone to blame.

Sales dropped.
A project failed.
Performance declined.
A machine stopped working.
