There are no stationary objects in the Universe: even our Solar System is moving not only around the center of the Galaxy (828,000 km/h) but also relative to its nearest stellar neighbors (70,000 km/h)

Long shot request: anyone aware of an open access pre-calculated surface slope raster for UK/England? In a perfect world, ~10m, but other scales welcome!
I am hiring! I am looking for a PhD student to work with myself, @ChrisAndermann, Micha Dietze and Niels Hovius to study the connectivity between groundwater, surface water, and sediment yield. The job will involve code development and field work in the beautiful Eifel mountains.
Making this model landslide reproduce very slight movement was actually pretty difficult. Inside the model “hill” is very frictionally weak material, representing a sandstone-capped anticline with a shale core. Real -life analog is high wall mining along a shale-cored slope.
@KathrynCutts Looks to me from pic 1 that the marks are only present on the high bits of the outcrop - so presumably surficial. They really do look like scratches to me. If it's right by the car park I wonder if they are using some kind of abrader to clear ice?
@Tom_Coulthard Now actually working on this has given me Opinions. I would have thought that if we need a massive, rapid push towards new uses of and practices on the UK's land, this rather requires working with the actual, current land managers...
Massively under-reported science story because there's so much going on right now but...it turns out that we might have figured out what's causing this very scary spike.
Quick thread, on how WE'VE BEEN ACCIDENTALLY GEOENGINEERING FOR DECADES...but then we stopped:
Today we say goodbye to this great blue bird

Hi @cardiffcouncil: an initiative like this is essential & wd be self-funding along Whitchurch Road by the Colonies. Multiple cars pass at dangerous speeds (>40mph) whenever there is less traffic on the road. Our excellent councillors @syhrtaylor & Ashley Wood will confirm.
Our @GMPSpecials were on Liverpool Road last night enforcing the 20mph speed limit & dealing with other traffic issues at the request of local residents. Highest speed was 41mph in the 20mph. One car seized - no insurance.
Remember most of the city centre is 20mph….. G
