Yesterday, it was not merely a nomination that was rejected.
Yesterday, the dignity of democracy itself was humiliated.

Those who constantly chant slogans of women’s respect and empowerment celebrated when the nomination of a Gandhian woman was rejected.

What was Meenakshi Natarajan’s fault?
Was it that she chose to contest an election?
Was it that she stood as an opposition candidate?
Or was it that she had the courage to stand up against those in power?

For the very reasons cited to keep Meenakshi Natarajan out of the electoral arena, were the nominations of the BJP Candidates ever rejected?

Objections were raised in all these cases.
Questions were asked regarding affidavits.
Controversies emerged.
Yet, their nominations were accepted.

Then why do different rules seem to apply only in the case of Meenakshi Natarajan?

Democracy is not merely about casting a vote.
Democracy means—

* Equal rules.
* Equal opportunities.
* Equal justice.

If those in power begin deciding who is allowed to contest elections, the people are left with only the choice of deciding whom to vote for. At that point, half of democracy ceases to exist.

The murder of democracy does not always take place in the streets.
Sometimes, it is recorded in files and regulations.
Sometimes, it is written in the language of laws.
And sometimes, its funeral procession is carried out while holding copies of the Constitution in hand.

Yesterday, democracy did not merely suffer a stain.
A grave wrong was committed—one that future generations will remember.

A Gandhian woman had her nomination rejected, but it was the entire democratic system that found itself standing in the dock.

Democracy does not die in a single day.
It is weakened gradually, piece by piece.
Yesterday marked yet another step in that direction.

The struggle for truth, accountability, and democracy is far from over.

దశాబ్దాల తరబడి కరువుకు కేరాఫ్ అడ్రస్ గా మారిన ఉమ్మడి పాలమూరు జిల్లా తలరాతను మార్చే సందర్భం ఇది. పాలమూరు బిడ్డగా ఈ ప్రాంతాన్ని సస్యశ్యామలం చేసే సంకల్పం తీసుకున్నాను.

రెండు రోజుల పాటు ఉమ్మడి పాలమూరు జిల్లాలో కృష్ణా నది పై నిర్మాణంలో ఉన్న అన్ని సాగునీటి ప్రాజెక్టులను స్వయంగా క్షేత్ర స్థాయికి వెళ్లి పరిశీలించాను. పాలమూరు లో 26 లక్షల ఎకర���లకు సాగునీరు అందించే లక్ష్యంతో ప్రాజెక్టులను పూర్తి చేయడానికి కార్యచరణ తీసుకున్నాను.

పెండింగ్ పనులు, ఆయా ప్రాజెక్టుల కింద భూ సేకరణ విషయంలో స్థానిక ప్రజాప్రతినిధుల సహకారం తీసుకుని యుద్ధప్రాతిపదికన పూర్తి చేయాలని అధికారులను ఆదేశించాను. అవసరమైన నిధులను గ్రీన్ ఛానెల్ లో ఇవ్వడానికి సిద్ధంగా ఉన్నామని చెప్పాను.

మిడ్జిల్ మండలంలో 20 ఏళ్ల క్రితం జెడ్పీటీసీగా ఇక్కడ ప్రజలు నాటిన మ���క్క ఇవ్వాళ మహావృక్షంలా పెరిగి ఈ ప్రాంతానికి నీడ నిచ్చే స్థాయికి ఎదిగిందని నా ప్రజలతో ఆనందాన్ని పంచుకోవడానికి రెండు రోజుల పర్యటన ముగింపులో భాగంగా జడ్చర్లలో “ప్రజా పాలన - ప్రగతి ప్రణాళిక” సభలో పాల్గొన్నాను.

I visited the southernmost tip of India.

I stood at Indira Point. I walked under trees that have stood for centuries. I dove into coral reefs among the most vibrant on earth.

And I sat with the people who live there. Tribal communities, whose land is being taken away by violating the Forest Rights Act. Settlers, many of them former soldiers, placed on these islands by the Indian government, who aren’t getting fair compensation.

The Modi government and BJP tells you Great Nicobar Project is about defence. It is not.

Expand INS Baaz - we will back the government fully. The Navy has been asking for expansion for five years - it has been ignored.

They tell you it is about a transhipment port. It is not. India is already building one in Kerala, which is on the mainland.

What it actually is: 1.5 crore trees felled. Coral reefs erased from official maps. Soldiers and tribals displaced - so one businessman can build hotels and casinos on India’s most irreplaceable ecological land.

Every young Indian I have spoken to understands this. You know that no amount of profit is worth destroying what can never be recovered.

I stand for ecologically balanced development. These islands can be the most extraordinary sustainable destination the world has ever seen. That is the India worth fighting for.

अगर आप Great Nicobar project को देश की सुरक्षा से जोड़ते हैं तो आज ही INS Baaz का विस्तार कीजिए। मैं पूरी तरह समर्थन में हूं और पूरा विपक्ष आपके साथ है।

INS Baaz तट पर है - इसके लिए न 1.5 करोड़ पेड़ काटने की ज़रूरत है, न जनजातियों को विस्थापित करने की।
