As of this week, U.S. travelers need to apply for authorization to enter the United Kingdom.

I went through this process myself to figure out what's the best way (app vs. website), how long it takes, and which credit card to use.

@jasontravelblog I find a good rule of thumb is that the flight should be no longer than 1 hour per night at your destination (7 night trip = maximum 7 hour flight). I've done longer and it's manageable, but difficult!

@tspadventure Two things that might work:
1) Don't download IG on your phone, just check it via your computer/web browser. That usually means less mindless scrolling!
2) If you use the app, set time limits for how long you can spend on it. I keep it to 10 minutes daily.

@betweenengland Contrarian opinion: If you're arriving late at night, that is the BEST time to taxi/grab into the city because there's no traffic. If you sleep at an airport hotel & wait to transfer until the next morning, you'll be sitting at standstill.
