Postdoc at @TU_Muenchen working on soils, sediments, water and everything flowing between those ๐ฟ ๐ชฑ ๐ โก๏ธ ๐๐ง Previous @NIOZnieuws and @EawagResearch
Biodegradable plastics are a real asset in many ways. The ones used in agriculture can strongly limit plastic pollution in soil. But what happens when they end up in lake sediments?
New paper out, from Carsten Schubert and me! Highlight paper in EGU's BG:

An excavator digging into Theodul glacier to prepare for early season ski races - shocking images in Zermatt. Is this the future of alpine skiing in the face of melting glaciers? The absolute wrong path, we need to see more climate action from this industry.
So lovely to see all the old and new SIAM scientists gathered at the North Sea. I had not seen most of them since I finished my PhD in the midst of covid times (so no party or goodbyes!). Exciting anaerobic microbiology + daily swimming ๐
Do you have experience in microscopy, image analysis, fluid dynamics, network theory, electrophysiology, and/or machine learning?
Join us as we track the flows & structure of mycorrhizal networks. We have a biophysics post-doc position open in Amsterdam

One of my current research topics is on the effect of floodplain soil wetness on methane emissions. Little downside is that that means I also have to sample when it is.. wet. Very wet. 3 days nonstop rain wet.
A warm welcome back to the office: I was granted funding by the Bavarian research alliance for my work on soil carbon in the Alps ๐ Thanks @BayFOR@TU_Muenchen
We welcome our new #ECS team in #Soil System Sciences: Ikenna Osumgborogwu (@ik_geomorph), Beatrice Giannetta, and Sigrid van Grinsven (@SigridinScience)

Everyone busy preparing posters and talks for EGU? Here's something to relieve some stress and looking forward to fun: the Soil System Sciences division is hosting a social event on Wed evening. Join in! (also welcome if your talk is in another division) https://t.co/GzPTd8rdon
A new package to let colour blind people see all maps!
Available in GitHub: https://t.co/HPxLVq7SWF
Install it by: install.packages("devtools") devtools::install_github("ducciorocchini/cblindplot")
And here is the description: https://t.co/mbhtAP2Efv
Snow cover and ground frozen problematic for soil sampling? Advantage of being an undecided aquatic/terrestrial scientist: then I'll just sample the soil profile that the creek build me. Waders on and let's go!
What if we could measure biodegradation of novel chemicals more high-throughput and support the design of better degradable chemicals? If you are as fascinated by this question as I am, join our team as PhD student in Environmental Chemistry. https://t.co/xZn4bAo6iV
@younggeomorph @donovan__dennis@GFZ_Potsdam This sounds awesome! Is there a mailing list in which you announce these talks?
And is there a recording available of this one, perhaps?
After great fieldwork and a lot of data analysis, MSc student Noortje Janssen successfully defended her thesis yesterday at WUR, on CO2 fluxes in proglacial areas. She and I will present this work also at NAC and EGU, so stay tuned!
Open PhD position at @uniinnsbruck, Austria, Department of Ecology, with a highly motivated ice-addicted team to work on bioaerosols and microplastics on glacial surfaces: Come and join us!
