📊 Why do health facilities continue to experience stockouts of life-saving SRH commodities? The answer isn't always poor supply chains. Sometimes, it starts with how counties plan, allocate and account for health budgets.
Our RMNCAH Budget Trend Analysis(FY 2022/2023-FY 2024-2025)for Isiolo, Marsabit and Mandera Counties found that:
⚠️ Low and volatile RMNCAH financing
⚠️ Weak budget transparency
⚠️ Heavy dependence on donor financing
⚠️ Underutilization of Facility Improvement Funds (FIF)
Together, these challenges contribute to commodity insecurity, prolonged stockouts and missed opportunities to improve maternal and adolescent health. In Isiolo County for example, our SRH Commodities study further highlights that:
❎Oxytocin was available in less than 40% of public health facilities
❎Magnesium sulphate availability declined despite being critical for preventing eclampsia-related maternal deaths
❎Public facilities experienced stockouts lasting up to eight months for essential SRH commodities.

We are always honoured to share the work we have been doing under the Kenya Snakebite Project, particularly because it addresses a critical yet often overlooked public health challenge affecting communities across the country.
Earlier today, our the SB Kenya Coordinator, @dorojuma1 was featured in an interview by @tv47news , and we are encouraged by the growing interest from national media in amplifying conversations around snakebite prevention, access to timely care and increased investment to snakebite management programs.
Stay tuned for the upcoming feature as we continue to raise visibility on this important health issue and advocate for stronger action against snakebite.

On Sunday, 7 April 2019, I arrived at Kabarak at 11: 30 a.m.
Mzee Moi was basking outside.
The moment he saw Lee Njiru, he shouted in Ki-Embu/Kikuyu, 'Niatia Munene?' meaning, 'How are things, big man?'
Njiru then replied, 'Nikwega Muthee', which translates to, 'Things are good, old man'.
Moi immediately asked whether there were any surviving members of President Jomo Kenyatta’s Cabinet.
You cant imagine Njiru started enumerating those who were still alive at the time: Mwai Kibaki, Daniel Mutinda, James Osogo, Nathan Munoko, Isaac Omolo Okero, Charles Njonjo (ex officio) and Assistant Minister Kassim Bakari Mwamzandi.
He even inquired whether Taita Toweett and Gikonyo Kiano were still alive.
He was also informed him that Kiano had died the previous year. 😂😂🔥
During our conversation, Mzee Moi intimated that he had deported Dr. Julius Gikonyo’s first wife, Ernestine Hammond, to pave the way for Kiano’s marriage.
He then asked about the whereabouts of Ministers Jeremiah Nyagah and Kamwithi Munyi.
He told him that both men had passed away and had been buried. 😂😭
Njiru again reminded Moi that he had once given a substantial amount of money, which was delivered to the committee organizing Kamwithi Munyi’s burial.
He further enquired about Jeremiah Nyagah’s children, Joseph and Norman.
By the time of the book "The President’s Pressman" was being written, both Charles Njonjo and Mwai Kibaki had also passed away.
Throughout that discussion, a seemingly lively Moi spoke extensively about politicians and politics.
He used the following analogy:
'If you go into the bush with your dog to hunt foxes, jackals and wolves, there is one fact that you should never lose sight of.
Your dog, the jackals and the wolves are all cousins while you are the only outsider.
There is always the possibility that these animals may gang up and turn against you....'
This analogy was his way of explaining politicians and politics. ...

Every woman deserves a safe pregnancy, safe delivery, and a healthy future.
Improving #maternalhealth requires more than clinical care, it requires strong health systems, accountable leadership, and communities that can demand better services.
In 2025, AtMP worked with communities, health stakeholders and county leadership to strengthen advocacy for #RMNCAH priorities, improve accountability and support investments that advance maternal and newborn health.
Our 2025 Annual Report highlights the partnerships, lessons, and milestones that continue driving progress.

Maternal health is often viewed as the sole responsibility of women. Evidence shows that when men actively participate in maternal and newborn health:
☑️Women attend antenatal clinics earlier
☑️Skilled delivery uptake increases
☑️Family planning decisions improve
☑️Maternal and newborn outcomes are strengthened
AtMP recognizes the critical role men play in advancing health and rights. We advocate for meaningful male involvement that strengthens maternal health outcomes, supports informed family planning decisions, prevents GBV and contributes to healthier communities.

Across headlines and daily reporting, femicide in Kenya continues to surface as a national crisis, one that is both visible in the media and deeply rooted within communities. The stories highlighted reflect a pattern that is further confirmed by data from a recent report by the Technical Working Group on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), including femicide.
The statistics are stark:
- 1,639 women were killed between 2022–2024 , marking a 10% increase in reported femicide cases
- 40.15% of cases are committed by husbands or intimate partners
- 77% of victims are killed by someone they know
These figures reveal a consistent and troubling reality, femicide is not random. It is often driven by intimate partner violence and occurs within spaces where women should feel safest. The stories we read are not isolated incidents and the data confirms a pattern.

I fell in love with this song the 1st time I heard it. I was about 8. For some, it was mere notes & keys. For me, it has been a map. I believe it is the closest thing to a thesis on life, love, & marriage & so will take my time to break it down below:

Today’s sensitization targeted students between grade 4-9 where we disseminated Safiya’s 8 Secrets and Fun with Safiya Board game. This is part of our strategy of using innovation to sensitize school children, parents and the community at large to reduce snakebite incidences and recommended First Aid measures.
