Mary Pickford received the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Coquette, released in 1929. She was the first actress to be born in Canada to win in this category.

It's hard to look at photos from this recording knowing that Powell was battling rectal cancer. He survived because of a then-experimental treatment and lived for another 46 years. Thank goodness for modern medicine!
