“The first Americans I knew and loved were the characters I met in my treasured children’s novels: Little Women, What Katy Did, Charlotte’s Web… I knew, even then, that books are the best friend you can have.”
📚 At the New York Public Library, The Queen addressed friends and supporters of The Queen’s Reading Room and shared her love of reading.
Have you @RobbieRinder , heard about @SilverStories2 ...children ( our Silver Readers) read stories or poems over the telephone to older members of the community ( our Silver Listeners) once a week- magical relationships, the call has been described as "the highlight of my week"
Have you heard of homeshare? It’s an ideal solution for anyone older who doesn’t need full time care but needs some support & companionship in their home & overnight peace of mind. Today I’m delighted to become ambassador for @twogenhomeshare
A lovely event, so great to meet Silver Readers and Silver Listeners and to see the exciting books that the school has bought. Silver Stories is such a simple idea but brings joy to all who take part and certainly helps children's confidence in reading.
Delighted to celebrate @SilverStories2 with kind donation of £50 of books from David and Elisabeth Carney-Haworth, our silver listeners and our readers @kernow_learning#AsOne

Twelve months ago today, and we still have Silver Listeners contacting us and telling us that it was one of the best days of their lives! @ClarenceHouse@RoyalFamily
The https://t.co/T3SpcROlbU summarises the importance of reading for pleasure in this great graphic. These are also some of the reasons we are bringing so many authors to St Austell on 17th June! #community#readingforpleasure
Our mission is to inspire a community that embraces reading for pleasure. Coming together on one day to celebrate something we do every day #SaveTheDate - June 17th #readingforpleasure
I had the privilege of sitting and listening to Olly in Year 7 read to an elderly member of our community this morning as part of the @SilverStories2 charity. Each morning one of our students read to a member of our community. Thank you Olly, you made my day! 📚
@LRCBHAcademy @CockshutHillSch @EDSummitLT @BHallAcademy @MissBetts_CHS @SilverStories2 Thanks @LRCBHAcademy it was your initial tweet & photo that inspired us! Thanks for the information. Sounds brilliant!
@ClaireyAngela@SilverStories2 We too are enjoying getting in touch with our @SilverStories2 listeners. Our young people really enjoy reading to them for 20 mins followed by a general conversation with each of them. An amazing initiative to develop intergenerational links amongst the community
Eek! After a reschedule, we have made our first step in @SilverStories2! What a successful start! My amazing year 8 student has communicated and read two chapters of Edgar and Adolf and will make a weekly call! Can’t wait to arrange more!
We love being a part of the @SilverStories2 project. It has brought even more light and happiness to our school. The connections with the community create the ‘warm fire, open door’ culture that @DartingtonLAP offer in their actions @CofEDevon
This is such a wonderful charity to support in school if you've not already signed up. We've enjoyed getting in touch with our listeners this term 😁 @SilverStories2 https://t.co/FSD91ES0KD
