This is why you’ve got to give your kids names from your own language. Everyone has been talking about “Olise” for the last 24 hours. “Balogun” has been on the lips of Americans ever since he scored that brace. Imagine if their names were Jayson or one of those generic names people keep giving kids these days.

Sometimes, when people like myself speak, it’ll seem as if we’re over sensitive (not that I care though). Now listen to this man. Let’s put sentiment aside and ask a simple, but critical question: assuming he wants to govern in his own state/region; do you think he’d say this about his own people? Impossible.
Now let’s stretch further: do you think a political aspirant for highly international (melting pot) cities like paris, London, New York, etc., would public say that the people s/he aspires to govern are not interested in his ability to speak French, English?
Can he say this about any state in Nigeria?
Back to Lagos. Some of you would say, he cannot get anywhere politically; he won’t win. The point is not whether he’d win or not, it’s about his arrogant utterance; about the audacity to cancel a major pillar of a people’s identity; the same people he allegedly plans to rule.
Beyond liberalism, the rate of disrespect many Nigerians project towards the Yoruba is disheartening. People who literally fled their decrepit region to settle in Yorubaland.
Yet, I am not blaming him. I blame us. Worldwide, everybody has/enjoys what’s called “home advantage”. Even in sports. But in Yorubaland, “home disadvantage” has become normal. Shame!
Major cheat code in life: One priority per day. Not three. Not five. One. Pick the single thing that, if completed, makes the day a win regardless of what else happens.
Protect two hours for it. Most people go entire weeks without finishing anything that actually matters because everything feels equally urgent.
When I was teaching at one of these big private schools years ago, one day the parent of one of my students couldn't pick them up because of a roadblock.
She asked if I could help bring the kids to where she had parked her car.
I stopped an okada. These kids couldn't even climb on the bike; the oldest was around 9 years old at the time.
They had never ever climbed an okada before in their lives.
I had to carry them one after the other. I took one, went and came back, then the second, then the third.
That's when it hit me that different realities produce different perspectives.
Never assume your experience is universal.
The crazy thing about Carlo Ancelotti’s football is, it’s the most annoying and stressful, but it’s also the most memorable and unforgettable. The one that gives you goosebumps, the sweetest feeling when you finally win.
NYSC should be made voluntary, with higher stipend & better living conditions. I also think the rigor that leads to the POP should be retained with joint civil-military leadership. The education tracks are also welcome. Nothing more than 4 weeks in camp.
The entire Japan twitter is raving about how great Vinicius is they are in awe of him then there’re “Madridistas” who want him sold for Doku and Yildiz.
How many people still care about the folks kidnapped from Oriire? For how long will the longing experienced by their loved ones continue?
It’s so tough to keep up with the days. @officialabat#RescueOriire
