Asmara Wants AU Headquarters Relocated to a Neutral Country from Addis Abbaba
Eritrea - Calls to relocate the African Union (AU) headquarters from Ethiopia to a neutral African country are gaining renewed attention as relations between Ethiopia and Eritrea deteriorate

Egyptian President Field Marshal Abdel Fattah el-Sisi spoke by phone with his Eritrean counterpart, warning him against traveling to Moscow, Russia.
Russia had suggested that Ethiopia and Eritrea—taking advantage of the upcoming third Russia-Africa Summit—should discuss ways to de-escalate tensions between them, covering issues such as the situation in the Red Sea and other matters. Egyptian President el-Sisi, having already informed Russia that Egypt would participate in the summit,
Eritrea Accuses Abiy Government of Escalating Hostility and Threatening Regional Peace
NEW YORK ― Ambassador Sophia Tesfamariam, following discussions with #China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, accused Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government of waging a sustained three-year campaign against #Eritrea while advancing territorial claims over the strategic port of Assab through nationalist rhetoric and alleged disinformation.
She stressed that Eritrea had exercised restraint despite what she described as repeated threats of force and explicit declarations of war by Ethiopian leaders, refusing to be drawn into a dangerous escalation.
Amb. Sophia Tesfamariam also challenged the international community over its continued diplomatic, financial, and political support for Addis Ababa, warning that shielding the Ethiopian government from meaningful accountability risks emboldening further aggression.
She cited #Ethiopia’s severing of diplomatic relations with Eritrea and the expulsion of Eritrean diplomats, including representatives accredited to the @_AfricanUnion and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, as evidence of the deepening crisis.
She warned that allowing political objectives to be pursued through threats or force undermines the UN Charter, rewards brinkmanship, and sends a dangerous message that powerful or strategically favoured states can disregard international law without consequences.
It was an honor to receive H.E. Mohamed Hamdy El-Molla, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the #UnitedStates.
We had a productive discussion on the excellent bilateral relations between #Eritrea and #Egypt, as well as developments across the #RedSea Basin and the #HornOfAfrica, with a focus on advancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation to achieve our shared goals.
We also agreed to strengthen our coordination and joint efforts to deepen understanding among relevant #US government officials, lawmakers, and other stakeholders, encouraging constructive engagement and a positive role in promoting #peace and #stability in our region.

Our Ambassador in the UN is doing excellent job in highlighting persistent threats of force and explicit declarations of war by #Ethiopian leaders and #Eritrea's maximum restraint and refusal to be drawn into an escalation fueled by provocative rhetoric and threats.
She also stressed the responsibility of an international community support of #Ethiopian Government, often shielding it from meaningful scrutiny and accountability.
Such support by the international community despite of #Ethiopia's intransigence weakens the deterrent effect of the @UN Charter's prohibition on the threat or use of force. It also sends a deeply troubling message to other states: that compliance with international law is expected of some, while others may enjoy exceptional treatment because of their strategic value or political relationships...
Ambassador Sofia also highlighted #Ethiopia’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with #Eritrea and expel #Eritrea|n diplomats, including those accredited to the @_AfricanUnion and the @UN Economic Commission for #Africa (ECA).
When an ardent anti-Eritrean instigator unequivocally states the true facts about Eritrea’s sovereignty, you know that Abiy has lost all the reasons to support his war mongering campaign against Eritrea. I have disagreed with Martin Plaut for the past quarter of a century, but how can anyone disagree with him on this point?
One point he emphasised, which deserves to be highlighted, is that, out of all the borders on the African continent, the #Eritrea–#Ethiopia border is among the most clearly defined, thanks to the 2002 boundary ruling, which both countries accepted as final and binding.
He also makes it clear that #Assab is an #Eritrean port. There are many landlocked countries in the world, and that is simply a reality they have to live with. Eritrea has always allowed Ethiopia to use its territory for the transportation of goods, while #Ethiopia also relies on #Djibouti to import what the country needs.
He goes on to say:
“For some reason, Abiy has made building a navy one of his priorities. He claims that Ethiopia cannot exist without owning a seaport, and since he cannot build his navy on a lake, he wants to establish it in Assab or #Massawa.
“But Eritrea is not a colony. It is an independent country, and he cannot do that.”

The public humiliation of Getachew Reda by Abiy Ahmed has already begun to play out on screen.
A few days ago, when Abiy arrived in Kenya, Getachew was among the high-level delegates lined up to greet him. Abiy was seen sharply withdrawing his hand from Getachew’s expecting handshake, while proceeding to shake the hands of everyone else in the line.
Getachew’s takedowns of Abiy have been numerous, brutal, and frequently gone viral online. Even after Abiy appointed Getachew as a Minister without Portfolio, Getachew made another infamous appearance in an interview with @AJEnglish’s @mehdirhasan, in which he described Abiy as a genocider who had yet to prove his leadership mettle.
Getachew Reda is regarded by many as public enemy number one for abandoning the cause of the people of Tigray’s struggle and becoming one of Abiy’s henchmen.
Held discussions with H.E. Mr. Fu Cong, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of #China to the @UN. In addition to UN80 processes, elections, we discussed recent developments in the #Horn of #Africa and the importance of sober, objective analysis grounded in facts and an appreciation of the region’s complex historical and political realities.
On #Eritrea–#Ethiopia relations, explained that the Government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has pursued a three-year-long campaign targeting the State of #Eritrea, its Government and institutions. This has been accompanied by an increasingly aggressive campaign to claim and annex the #Eritrean port of #Assab, exploiting fabricated historical connections and disseminating misinformation and disinformation to inflame nationalist sentiment and galvanize public opinion in #Ethiopia.
Underscored that, despite persistent threats of force and explicit declarations of war by #Ethiopian leaders, #Eritrea has exercised maximum restraint and refused to be drawn into an escalation fuelled by provocative rhetoric and threats.
Further stressed the responsibility of an international community that has extended diplomatic, financial and political support to the #Ethiopian Government, often shielding it from meaningful scrutiny and accountability.
I also highlighted #Ethiopia’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with #Eritrea and expel #Eritrea|n diplomats, including those accredited to the @_AfricanUnion and the @UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
Such support must not embolden the dangerous illusion that political objectives can be pursued through force, whether against neighbouring states or #Ethiopia|s own people. Such an approach is neither sustainable nor conducive to peace. It rewards brinkmanship, emboldens further provocations and weakens the deterrent effect of the @UN Charter's prohibition on the threat or use of force.
It also sends a deeply troubling message to other states: that compliance with international law is expected of some, while others may enjoy exceptional treatment because of their strategic value or political relationships...

It’s unfortunate to have a bad neighbour: The impact of the Ethiopian invasion on Eritrea's GDP
In its first 4 years of independence, #Eritrea experienced substantial economic growth, with a remarkable annual GDP increase of 14% between 1993 and 1996. This period represented the fastest economic expansion in the country's history. However, driven by jealousy, #Ethiopian leaders launched another invasion, which caused GDP to decline during the war from 1997 to 2000.
Despite @UN sanctions and the war, Eritrea's GDP rebounded in 2014, soaring by 31%, largely due to mining activities. Nevertheless, GDP declined again in 2015 after Ethiopia launched six missiles at the Bisha Gold Mining Project, the only mining operation generating hard currency, which amounted to $700 million USD annually.
The missile attacks were not the sole contributors to the negative impact on GDP; the overall military budget allocated for national security also played a significant role.
Had Ethiopia's leadership not continually engaged in conflict with #Eritrea, Eritrea's economic development might have flourished tremendously. As the saying goes, "a bad neighbour is like a leak in the roof; it constantly drips trouble into your life."

There is a crisis in Moyale, in the Somalia region of Ethiopia. The attack was allegedly committed by the Oromo regional force. The Potemkin Party (PP) is struggling to maintain security for its citizens while fantasising about expanding its territory by invading its neighbors.
