THE FED RATE AND THE GLOBAL ECONOMY.
The Federal Reserve in the US is meeting and the Chairman Jerome Powell will address the Press later today, 17th September, on the decision, specifically on the Fed Rate, which is currently between 4.25% and 4.5%.
A few things might happen. As of August, the inflation rate in the US increased from 2.7% in July to 2.9% in August, the fastest rise since January. In this regard, therefore, it would NOT be objective to lower the fed rate. When inflation is going up, the rates should always go in the reverse direction, not to overheat the demand side. On the other hand, tariffs will continue to drive prices higher, as producers pass the extra cost to consumers.
However, the pressure from President Trump to drastically lower the Fed rate is unprecedented, and the Federal Reserve’s decision might align with the demands from the executive - reasons will be shrounded in forecasts. Otherwise, if they don’t do the bidding, there will be a new Fed Chair by the next review sitting. If this happens and Fed rate is cut "by alot", the ramifications could be as follows in the coming weeks.
Generally, the markets will take note of the fact that the Federal Reserve is not independent and in that regard, also the US Dollar. The Greenback's strength is in its independence.
The dollar will likely lose ground, and most currencies, including our local currency, will strengthen against the dollar. This will especially be against the dollar.
The other economies will likely follow suit, and a monetary easing stance will be adopted across many countries in the next few months.
The fixed-income instruments in the US and later in other markets will continue losing their lustre.
The NYSE, NASDAQ will head north - Dow Jones, S&P, and other indices will reach all-time highs. Later, most other stock markets across the world will rally, with most money finding its way there and therefore creating more demand that will drive prices up. We will likely have the first individual with a net worth north of half a Trillion dollars ($500Bn) by the end of September this year - South African-born Elon Musk.
Emerging markets will obviously also be bullish given the capital outflow from the US finding its way anywhere with better returns.
The monetary easing and the consequent bonanza will by no means go past the 1st half of next year, 2026. Inflation will start biting again, and monetary tools will favour a rise in rates. When inflation starts to rise, the immediate effect is depressed remittances to emerging markets as disposable income gets disrupted. And then it will start all over again.
All this is based on an assumption of a stable global geopolitical environment, especially one that will not harm fuel supply chains.

🚨 | Wayne Rooney on Todd Boehly
“Todd's playing Squid game with Chelsea. Sign 100 ballers, see who survives. Joao Pedro? Ball control, Chemistry, adaptation...all on point. Bet Todd's watching replays on loop saying, "Finally... I cooked with this one" https://t.co/GbtBQPoA60
By the way, Bitcoin could hit $1 Million per BTC in 10-15 years. If you want to retire well, just buy some with money you have no use of and forget you ever bought. If you buy $10 worth of BTC now it could be worth $100 then...
A priceless reaction from a father upon receiving the news that his son scored an A- in the recently released KCSE results.
