WHO ARE THESE OFFICERS — AND WHY ARE THEIR NAMEPLATES MISSING?

Look closely.

Helmet. Shield. Protective gear. Equipment to control a crowd.

But apparently no visible nameplate.

In the video, a protester repeatedly asks the officers why their identities are not visibly displayed.

This is not a trivial question.

The same concern surfaced during the July 2026 Jantar Mantar crackdown, when Delhi Police and RAF personnel were reported to be in plain clothes or without visible name badges. The Indian Express subsequently reported directions that personnel deployed at Jantar Mantar should report in uniform.

The Supreme Court's D.K. Basu safeguards also recognise the importance of clear police identification during arrest and interrogation, while a Supreme Court-linked inquiry into the Jantar Mantar police action is examining the need for visible identification during arrests and crowd control.

So ask the uncomfortable but verifiable questions:

Who were these officers?
Which unit were they from?
Who ordered their deployment?
Why were visible nameplates absent?
Were body cameras operating?
Where is the CCTV footage?
Who authorised the use of force?
And who will be accountable if misconduct is established?

Calling them a “private army” without evidence would weaken the case.

Demanding identifiable officers and transparent accountability strengthens it.

A democracy does not require protesters to trust an unidentified force.

The state exercises power through identifiable public officials—not anonymous men behind shields.
