A Brazilian gay woman who grew up in left-wing politics believed -- because she was taught -- that those on the right, especially bolsonaristas, hated her and wanted to murder her for being gay.

She recounts here how she got a job that she needed, and it turned out the workplace was filled mostly with far-right conservatives, and she was petrified. It turned out that they were uniformly supportive, friendly, kind and treated her with respect and as a valued colleague.

Lots of political and online pundit types in every camp have a strong interest in convincing people that those in other political camps are hateful to the point of caricature purely because that demonization is a form of control to keep people in line for all sorts of self-interested benefits relating to power and profit.
