It was Route d’Occitanie stage 3. Michael Valgren was pushing the limit on a descent, trying to prove himself before the Tour de France, when in a split second he crashed hard. And it's very hard.

He went off the road down a slope and suffered horrific injuries and basically career-ending injuries: a fractured pelvis, dislocated hip, torn ACL, damaged MCL, and severe meniscus damage.

Many said it is over. And even if he comes back to pro cycling, he won’t be standing at the top anymore.

But he said it is not over and didn’t give up. And worked hard all these years behind the scenes, even stepping down to a development team level.

And after years of hard work, he did it. He is finally a GrandTour stage winner. Chapeau Michael, you are a hero. ❤️
