@doctorinigo On the subject of screening for early detection, if you're a man over 50 please get PSA tested. My partner cajoled me into it 6 mths ago. PSA high (13 ng/L), scans, biopsy and robotic prostate removal followed 3 wks ago. Fully mobile already & aim to be on my bike in a few weeks.

Certainly true in my experience - work & lifestyle stress limits the amount of training your body can absorb. All subtracted from your 'physiological headroom'
In trained individuals, non-training stress tends to affect ANS activity more so than the training stress that they’re accustomed to.
This means that lower/less stable HRV often reflects the stress that diverts energy away from recovery processes & impairs training adaptations.
Stress, sleep, & parasympathetic activity are key contributors to individual variation in training responses, & they’re interrelated.
↑Pre-bed HRV = ↑sleep
Pre-sleep slow paced breathing = ↑HRV & ↑sleep
↑Sleep = ↑next-day HRV

In particular, aerobic exercise is one of the very few interventions known to reduce aortic stiffness. Increased aortic stiffness is a key contributor to high systolic BP with aging.
Cardiac ANS activity, blood pressure, & aortic stiffness worsen with age, are not unrelated, & increase risk. Intentional lifestyle change to improve parasympathetic function may alter their trajectories, & HRV tracking may be the most accessible way to guide the process.

Just put a HR strap on each morning and do the bleeping test!
You put 2,3,4 hrs EVERY day into training but donning a HR strap for a minute or 2 each morning to get accurate data & ensure that training is actually productive is too 'inconvenient'?🙄

I’m a fan of active recovery & certain modalities, but rest days with no or minimal team obligation are underrated. Few things allow players to shut it down & recover better than simply knowing there’s nothing on the calendar tomorrow. Typically see a nice HRV bump the next day.
@andrew_flatt @myithlete I'm sure my numbers are better than 10 years ago. Some unavoidable down periods due to life stress or illness, but upward trends in HRV have given the most motivational feedback to reinforce healthy habits over the long term.
The promise of training personalised to what your body is able to absorb and benefit from the most has been my ambition since I started measuring HRV with ithlete 11 years ago! @myithlete

@Point1_Athletic@Alan_Couzens @myithlete @andrew_flatt Hi Chris - not so likely I think. Parasympathetic overreaching is associated with adrenal fatigue (production and/or sensitivity), and in my experience is very stubborn to budge. Can't get HR up during exercise no matter how hard you try!
