DO NOT ATTEND KOPF CONS. I have just returned from #AnimeMidwest 2026 and it left me defeated.
This con took place in Rosemont, IL.
I flew in from Pennsylvania, so I had Flight ticket, Hotel, Table cost. Not counting food, package fees, and other miscellaneous expenses. I kept costs as low as I could for myself. I gathered information from other people who have previously attended and they informed me that this was roughly a 15K con attendance, which to me was worth the investment. I've done well at previous conventions smaller than 15K so I took the risk.
Set up day on Thursday was so incredibly hot. They kept bay doors open the entire time and didn't have the Air conditioning running during a heat wave which made it horrible for everyone setting up.
Friday had the most activity. Saturday (which is typically your highest selling, and most attendance day) was DEAD. I've never made such little- bare bones sales on a Saturday. EVER.
Sunday rolled around and had some attendance (maybe 500 People in the entire floor which was shared room of Voice Actors, food vendors, artists, and Vendors Hall) and I made fewer sales than the Friday.
There were so many empty artist alley tables, and there was absolutely no consideration when arranging the tables in the hall. Some artists tables has a giant support BEAM directly in front of their table.
There was a random safari zone in the Autographs section where you could hear squealing pigs all day.
Food vendors would close early so artists weren't able to get anything towards the end of day.
The Double tree hotel charged $25 per package that was delivered to the hotel.
There was no staff walking around to help artists who were tabling alone, so they could use the restrooms.
I left the con feeling utterly defeated and $1k in the hole.
And to put the cherry on top, I applied for Control+ALT+Delete 2026 right before this con because I anticipated this one was going to be much larger than it actually was. When I tried to cancel my table, they took a 25% cancellation fee despite it only being 5 days since I placed the order.
I will never be attending a KOPF Con and I strongly warn anyone considering it. Ryan Kopf also released a email post about how his conventions are dying and how he has had to lay off people due to financial problems.
BEWARE ARTISTS. #kopfcons

@ironmouse I am actually! I’m an actual seamstress who has worked in production of costumes for films and television and have been cosplaying for ovef 20 years. Some examples range from detailed to simplistic. I am also the seamstress who did 7 outfits for Asayoru Maid Cafe Idol Group.
@ReiStarCosplay I think this is the perfect type of anime for this. The kind where they show the mundane parts of life and it adds SO much. I hazard to use the phrase "Ghibli-esque" but its a similar "animating the slow steps of everyday tasks". So.... Reistar brand Witch Hat A. when?
Yeah? @AmericanAir pay hundreds for cramped, hot seating, pushing your bag service onto your clients, and we get all of this nasty shit all over to breathe? "Premiere" Flight AA2741
